As close to perfect as a car could be — before a glaring exception

Three months ago, I would have given the vehicle a five-star rating. There were minor flaws, such as the lack of a rear windshield wiper and the need to use a cable for CarPlay connectivity. (Of course, both of those imperfections have been remedied by the 2025 model.) But then the car’s main battery died, just 10 months into my lease. The vehicle has now been at the dealership for exactly three months awaiting a replacement battery, which is still on backorder after all this time.

Mixed Review

The Ioniq 5 is comfortable and pleasant to drive. It’s not a sports car by any means, but it definitely has the power you need, whenever you need it. On the whole, traveling long distances is okay, with chargers found frequently enough along the I 95 and 90 corridors. In the rural areas, good luck finding a high speed charger. We charge at home, and can usually go about a week between charges. Unfortunately, the climate system makes a high pitch buzz which hasn’t yet been fixed, and the car was in the dealers service department for 6 weeks because of a bad drive motor. Hyundai fixed the under the warranty and we were given a loaner, but that’s a long time for diagnosing and fixing the problem. Not yet sure if I’d buy another Hyundai product.

2024 Ionic 5

I am very happy with my 2024 Ionic 5. A few things I would like to point out and have noticed these were addressed in the 2025 model. No rear wiper. A big one is not seat warmers with remote start. No roof rails. I hate the idea of clamping roof racks to the vehicle body. Mine actually came off in the car wash. No Rear seat warmers The 2025 model doesn't seem to have any wheel choices. No wireless car play.

Good EV with some electronic issues

Promised NACS adapter has not been provided. Continual issues with Android auto. Failed USB port that is the only connection to display screen. Still awaiting that repair. Wind noise in the roof is still present & rather annoying. The dealership investigated the noise & drove comparably equipped ioniq 5 vehicles & all had the same issues: *not* something that speaks well of your vehicle quality.

What a joy to drive and own!

My first electric vehicle has been a revelation! Quick, smooth, quiet and economical to fuel. Up front costs a bit higher, as I had a charging station installed at home, but the vehicle itself has been flawless. After a year, I'm sure there are still more features and abilities to discover.

Unreliable ICCU Failures Ruin an Otherwise Decent Vehicle

Already sold the vehicle less than 2 months into ownership. The ICCU failure rate and lack of remedy scared me. I don’t want to be left stranded on a road trip. I had issues with fit and finish on mine. Paint quality was poor and rear hatch panel detaching underneath the rear windshield. No wiper on rear windshield. Small frunk. Pano moonroof not tinted enough.

Nearly perfect if it wasn't for the faulty ICCU

Vehicle is a pleasure to drive. Great performance. Good comfort. Wish it had wireless CarPlay and a rear windshield wiper. I'd give the Ioniq 5 a 4.5/5 if it wasn't for the ticking time bomb that is the ICCU. As drivers, we have been reassured that the failure rate is exceeding low and that the software patches have fixed the problem. There are countless stories of the ICCU failing and leaving drivers stranded. Hyundai often does not provide a loaner vehicle and it can take months to receive a fix. I personally know other Ioniq 5 owners that have had their ICCU fail and felt left in the dark by Hyundai. As a result, even though I love driving the car, I am constantly worried the vehicle is going to brick itself and I will end up stranded in the middle of nowhere and without a vehicle for months.

Love This Car!

Everything about the car is great! The lack of a rear wiper is its largest liability with the 24 model (included with the 25 model). The ability to pre-condition manually would also be wildly desirous. However, the experience of owning the vehicle has been deeply positive and enjoyable!

Avoid until they fix ICCU

Every model year they have had ICCU problems and recalls, and dealerships are backed up to deal with this promptly. The IONIQ5 is a decent car, but having issues fixed is a hassle. Based on the ICCU issues alone, I wouldn’t recommend this car until Hyundai can sort it out.
