Our 25 Ionic

My wife and I are both in our 70’s. The New Ionic fits us well. We drive it locally, or regionally. Plenty of power. Easy to charge. And definitely easy to drive.

My Ioniq 5 review

Great car. Love how it handles. Still getting used to charging and to charge and for how long but lots of information out there which is great.

Great overall styling and packaging.

1. I have only had the vehicle for 2 months, but I love the styling, design, and all of the options that come on the Limited trim. The only thing that is lacking is the automatic walk-away door locking that I had on my previous vehicle. 2. I chose a Limited RWD because it was impossible to find an Ioniq 5 Limited AWD in Central Florida. I know that most of the AWD models are shipped up north, but there should be more AWD models allocated to the southern dealerships, and it would have been nice to have that option.

Great until it's not

We started strong with this car. Had all the bills all the whistles everything I wanted no major complaints little things like no scratches. A little easier on the inside is scuffing needed to replace the floor mats with all weather mats just a little tweaks that needed to get done but then I go outside to get in turn opens the door turns on warnings that the electrical system is having problems. It gives me enough time to drive it out of my parking garage to the street side where the tow truck can get to it from there gets towed to the dealership and I'm waiting to get it back because of electrical problems. This is an electric car. You don't want the car telling you. There's a problem with the electrical system so I like the car I'm just worried about how dependable it is fingers crossed that it turns out to be a good car in the end.

Great first EV

My first EV. Really happy with it 2 months in and don't see myself going back to ICE for a commuter car.

12 weeks in

Fun to drive, accommodating for 4. Feels unreliable with regard ti the 12v battery and the overall control module. Expensive to purchase and the operating cost seems like it is going to be in the higher side (to be further evaluated.

2025 SE lacks basic features for value

First the announcement of the next year model $9500 dollar price reduction for 2026 models the day after federal EV tax credit expired was a real kick in the face. I don’t mind it getting more affordable; I praise that. Rather, it shows that Hyundai was using the tax credit to inflate their profit margins. All versions of car— —Cup holders— quite narrow; should be larger — heated seats: the button needs to be relocated. I keep accidentally turning it on. — the “physical” buttons on dash: the buttons suckkkkk. You combined the worst of touchscreens and physical buttons. It’s a touchscreen physical button with not tactile/ haptic feedback. I lose screen real estate + still have to look when pressing the button. — where’s the physical play / pause button — the created noise for EVs at low speeds is too loud inside the cabin. It’s really annoying. Other EVs aren’t like this — I have no confidence you will support the cars firmware for 5+ years. I feel it will be abandoned by 2027/ 8 and that is unacceptable for this expensive of a car. —ICCU & 12 V battery issues give me anxiety. ICCU could fail right after warranty and then my car is a brick. Until fixed, it should be considered a defective part and covered regardless of warranty period. 2025 SE versions should have given the price essentially everything (the window material, driving features, etc) the SEL had with possible exceptions of — power liftgate (but auto close should be there for accessibility) — leatherette seats — the interior V2L

Good Car with Opportunity to make it exciting.

1) Car Seat needs to have a gap for it to be connected through boot setting. This is definitely a risk that needs to be avoided. 2) AC fan duct can be positioned differently it becomes too cold too sudden 3) Better Wipers 4) Sun Roof 5) If i am using car play there is no ways for me to switch to radio; i have to manually disconnect which creates an issue.

Luxury features at a reasonable price

We leased an ioniq 5 Limited trim. It has excellent features - phone can operate the car so no need to carry the (large) key, manual window shades on rear windows, one foot driving, heads-up display, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless phone charger, rear wiper, seat memory, lots of sensors and so on. My only complaints are about how it looks - the rear windshield overhang looks ugly and also it prevents the car wash from cleaning the rear windshield. Also, we got a black car but for some reason, it has white (silver?) accents at the bottom - I would have preferred a completely black car. I have also noticed that accelerating from a stop requires pressing the accelerator a lot to overcome the play it has.

Buyer beware

I have had the car less than 3 months. Right at 2000 miles and it died. A warning came up that the battery is overheating and car locked up. Almost rear ended. Had it towed to my dealership where they told me they can't look at it for over a week and half. Many people are having this problem or very similar issues. Hyundai claim is it's about 1 % of the Ioniqs. When it happens to you personally, It seems like it's a much higher number. Before this I loved the vehicle in every way. But that is irrelevant. To have a 55K vehicle just die on you having barely using it is completely unacceptable.

Great all around EV

Overall the Ioniq 5 has been great, reliability and high insurance premiums are the only downsides.

Great first EV experience

I got this car when I got a new job where I was going to have a long commute. The experience so far has been nothing short of fantastic with the only real issue being that the wireless phone charger is insufficiently cooled so my phone quickly overheats when placed on it thus meaning it stop charging. Thankfully there are plenty of USB-C charge ports to use with a wire instead. It would be great if it was a little more efficient for freeway driving, but I realise that this would likely come at the cost of the car's styling and the design of the car is great and one of the reasons that I was drawn to it so I'm okay paying a small penalty for that. The car is otherwise great. It's smooth and quiet and really roomy. I used it to move recently and the amount of interior space is great! I've four adult passengers fit comfortably as well. I use the highway drive assist daily and it is such a game changer. It makes my commute so much more tolerable and I almost don't really mind getting stuck in traffic since it can handle all of that! This doesn't have to do with the car, but this the first car that I've acquired from a dealership and the experience there wasn't very good. For such a significant purchase, the experience should be much better.

Nice but still a Hyundai

vehicle is great. Would be better if Hyundai fixed the ICCU issues. Worst part is you still have to deal with the Hyundai stealerships.
