Verified CustomerThanks for taking the time to do this review for our staff and for letting us know that you were disappointed about not knowing that your engine was potentially using oil internally before you had us repair the external oil leak. I didn't know the specifics behind your repairs so I took time to look up your repair orders and talk to our guys about your vehicle’s situation.
The initial repair order asked us to check for an oil leak because of oil puddle on the floor and to check for an engine vibration at idle when the A/C is on. Our mechanic found that your upper engine mount was broken and the stabilizer below the engine was so oil soaked it wasn't functioning well. The vibration portion of this repair cost just over $1000. Our mechanic then showed me a bag containing your oil-soaked pressboard style belly pan/splash shield which we haven’t gotten rid of yet because we are trying to dry it out before disposal (you can come look at it if you want to). The exterior of your engine was leaking so badly that it had completely soaked through this pan and had constant drops of oil he could watch dripping out of it. We replaced/resealed the parts that were causing the large external oil leaks for just under $2600.
Because your engine had such significant external oil leaks it was impossible for our mechanic to know that those leaks weren’t the complete problem. It was only after you came back in for an oil change and asked us to check for any other oil leaks because you were going through a quart of oil in 45 days that led our mechanic to believe there may be an internal engine oil consumption problem (possibly in the turbo) since there weren’t any external engine leaks anymore. However, he cautioned that we still don’t know for sure where the oil is going because we haven’t actually done any formal teardown or diagnosis to confirm where it is going internally.
We wish we could have given you a heads up that the external leaks may not have been the full problem, but in talking with our guys we determined there just wasn’t any way for us to know about the potential internal oil consumption problem while those significant external leaks were present. No matter what, if we had a similar situation tomorrow, we still would have to start by fixing the obvious large external leaks, and then move on from there if a problem still existed. I know this is disappointing and we wish we could have warned you, but we just couldn’t know that ahead of time.
