First I talked to a salesman and asked about test driving a specific car. I told him I’d be driving from Chipley, so let me know if anything changed. I drove down and was told the car had been sold that morning. No worries, and he said he’d call if anything came in.
I never got that call, but I did see what I wanted on the website. I called Byron on May 11th and told him that I wanted to purchase the car. I agreed to come to town, but he called back to say it wouldn’t be available for a couple of days. On May 15th, he texted that it was in. We worked up an agreement, and I did a credit application. He called back to say that he had been wrong about it being on the truck, but it would be in the following week. Despite not hearing anything from Byron, I kept checking back. I was told not to worry, it had his name on it. I offered to put a deposit down several times and the website continued to advertise the car.
Finally, on July 30th, he called, said it was in. I asked again for the deposit link, but ended up taking off work early to go to the dealership. They said it had been sold to someone else (with a convoluted excuse). The sales manager, Jeremy, told me they’d keep us both happy because they could get the exact same car on Tuesday and nothing would change from our original agreement. I did not hear from them that day. I called and left messages for several days, but neither Byron nor Jeremy returned my call. Finally, a week later than promised, the salesman called to tell me they couldn’t get it from the other dealership.
So much more I’d like to say, but this is long. Just know you’ll get false promises and assurances that aren’t worth a dime if you do business with Bay Hyundai. I really wanted to purchase from them, because I’ve driven Hyundai vehicles a long time and I love them, but I’ll go back to Werner or Mitchell or AutoNation again – never Bay.
