Trash motor, 6 months late, now blown.
I had gotten into contact with Joe about a L86 reman build motor with the DOD delete via camshaft and lifter, said 4-6 weeks it would be built. Fast forward 4 almost 6 months later just received the motor with no paperwork on it. Been in contact about why it took so long so he extended my warranty out to 3 years. Have the motor installed and ran fine for almost a year, started to hear a tick or knock, contacted him about it and he wants me to ship my truck from Wyoming to his shop for diagnosis. Or pay to have motor pulled and he will go through it. He said because I didn’t go by his warranty or break in procedures (which were not provided) I did the standard what my mechanic did with his 6.2 that he installed and had no issues with. Now this motor is blown. Any person in their right mind would not want to ship their vehicle to him at owners cost when motor was 4 months late. How long is my vehicle going to sit at his shop? Im so unhappy with this experience and from what I can see from majority of other people are unhappy as well. I also ordered extra parts for this swap as advised from my mechanic and gaskets. Also had vehicle tuned and now I’m sitting with another blown motor, unknown as to what the issue is now, but to me seems like it is a bad rod bearing which under his description he goes through and does all that during assembly. To me, this work seems cheap, shady, and novice work done by a guy trying to make a quick buck, not to mention his demeanor over texts, quoting “ Not a single engine company provides all the installation instructions and information that I do. Because I am the best. Now, let me know how you would like to proceed and I will be glad to help you. Thank you.” although polite. Still can’t send any information, and also only sent the information to a completely wrong email address. No paper copy with motor. So my plan is to rip this motor back out. Send it on a pallet and get my money back. There’s far more professional and reputable shops closer to my area that actually have experience in building and rebuilding quality motors with better customer service. Overall. I wouldn’t recommend sending or let alone spending any time or money with Joe. Not to mention I never heard him mention any “techs” working on the motor. I hate to down this guy and his business but when this motor gets torn down the workmanship will show how much experience this clown has. I wouldn’t let this guy near another vehicle of mine in my life.
