Values are valuable!
I recommend Lancer to everyone now. I met the owner before he passed away last year, a kind gentleman who explained to me as a first time customer, the values he had begun the business with and that had served well. He had wanted to hold on to good workers by paying a fair wage and giving stock in the company and retiring benefits. His plan had worked, giving him loyal mechanics. He won me over by telling me they would never try to upsale, but would give an honest assessment, something I had become very wary of already as a woman and why I was looking for a new mechanic I could trust. My experiences at Lancer have proved him true to this point. I hope the company continues to uphold his standards that are old school and morally right, in our world of fallen ethics. This lastest visit, I took my working daughter's car in because she was sure it was falling all to pieces and was afraid it needed thousands of dollars in repairs. They checked out several points and said all it needed was an oil change and the oil had been down a quart, but the car was in good shape. $60 and it was good to go! If anyone COULD HAVE upsold us, we were prime candidates. I asked if the fact it needed oil meant that it was "eating oil" and might benefit from an engine flush (as had been recommended on an earlier car by one of those mechanics I no longer trusted) ? I saw on Lancer's list of services that they do offer engine flushes..... "No," Rich answered, "it is perfectly normal for a car to burn a quart of oil (this car was overdue for an oil change by now) and an engine flush can often cause more damage than good." Wow I was so relieved to get a straightforward assessment! So I decided that at that cheap price I could afford for them to look at MY car which had sprung an oil leak in the two days it had taken me to concentrate on my daughter's car. Whole different story. The transfer valve was leaking and the tire indicator was on, but they again didn't try to upsale me on the 4 expensive tire pressure sensors all gone kaput. I took the inexpensive option of keeping track of tire pressure myself.... They did discover a rear light unit was out that I had forgotten about among other sidetracking life issues... ultimately they told me what needed immediate attention and gave a list of recommeded maintenance, but no pressure to do any of it with them. They did a fine job on the things I asked them to. Lancer was recommended to me by a neighbor; I now pass that recommendation on. May they continue as I have so far experienced, to hold fast to and pass on the legacy of Mr. Lancer, of respectability, honesty, integrity and good workmanship.
