In and out with the same issues - VW not supported
I took my car in for an in issue I was having with the brakes and electrical systems on my VW. There had been a reoccurring issue with a “brake booster limited” warning light coming on every once in a while, which was heavily affecting the braking ability of the car. Several weeks ago this issue began showing as soon as I turned the car on, the check engine, ABS, and airbag lights pop on; plus the start/stop system error along with the Brake Booster error messages. With so many issues, I didn’t want to drive but as the car warmed up, most lights (except engine light) and error messages would turn off and the brakes would work fine.

I called and asked if they took care of if VWs as German car engines and electrical systems can be tough to maneuver and asked if they worked with these types of cars to which they said yes and I took it in the next day. I explained the problems and let them know that the lights tend to go away once the car is warmed up and driven around but that I didn’t feel it was safe to drive. I told them all of these issues and they said they’d check it out. Bruce called several times to update me, which was appreciated. He told me eventually that there was an issue with the shutter motor, and threw around that it could be upwards of 800$, but that he could get one for $300. As someone who knows little about cars, I assumed all of this was meant to help. He also mentioned that there was a loose wire under the front bumper which they fixed.

When he called the next week to tell me the car was good and that they had driven it around and that the lights weren’t an issue anymore and it was driving fine, I was glad to hear that the price was coming in under what I expected. I went in, picked up the car where I was assured again that it was safe to drive and that the lights weren’t taken car of.

As I turned on the car in the parking lot, every single light and error message i had been dealing with previously came back on except for the check engine light. I had taken time off from work during lunch to grab the car and had to return quickly so I allowed the car to warm up. All of the lights and error messages turned off except for the brake booster error message which now, unlike before does not go away. I assumed that maybe when I tried it later in the day there would be a difference but as I tried the car again, all of the warning lights and error messages from before came back on INCLUDING the previously fixed engine light.

I would be able to understand if there was some further electrical issues to be fixed if the shutter motor was the issue with the engine that needed to be fixed but I basically spent 700$ for a fix to something that did not help the situation and was lied to about the car still being safe to drive and that the lights had been taken care of. In fact, the issue with the brake booster error is now not going away so the car is worse off than it was before I brought it in.

I understand that this is a strange issue but this feels like if you brought your child to the hospital because of some unknown disease, asked the doctor if they could help, and the doctor told you that they just had a deviated septum, fixed that and sent them home saying they were fine, but now on top of still dealing with the illness, they now are now feeling worse.

If you couldn’t fix the problem, say that.

Feels extremely greedy even if this was a problem that was showing when the car was scanned. I was told the car was safe to drive. It was and still is not, and now I’m still without a car and looking for somewhere else to take my business that will be more honest and upfront about their ability to solve these types of issue and follow through with the repairs.

Really wanted to have the trust.
