General statement/question
I was doing a search to compare tire pricing, and what was included and the best options. During my Search for tires, I came across the Midas site and noticed they did free diagnostic services as well, which I have not found anywhere else so that is a great service. I had concerns regarding my brakes that I was looking to have checked as part of the free service. I called on 11/12 just expecting to set up an appointment later that week or over the weekend, I wasn't feeling well that day and never expected it to be same day service, but Rick said if I could drop the car off that day, they could look at for me. I happen to have people available to help me to be able to drop it off, which I don't usually have. I dropped it off about 11ish that morning and let Rick know I actually had another car to use for the day or even overnight if needed. I saw the mechanic take my car for a test drive while still in the parking lot before leaving with those that met me there, so they did it right away. I left and within the hour from leaving, Rick called to tell me what they found, and sent me a report of the diagnostics, which was great. The price was much more than I would have thought, but I dont know the price of parts and I don't usually have the opportunity of the time and others availabile to help, so I took advantage of the opportunity for both. They started working on the car a about 15 minutes before noon and he called me about 15 minutes after 2pm to tell me the car was ready. I went back to pick up my car and had a very pleasant conversation with Rick while checking out and the overall experience was great that day!! As I was driving, I noticed the brakes were low to the floor and didn't feel right but I waited a couple days to see if they just needed to settle or adjust or something. They didn't get better so I called Rick back Thursday and let him know. No problem bring it back, they would need a couple hours so helpful to drop it off. I had set up to drop it off on Saturday and leave it. I had something to do for about 1pm that day and instead of having people running around dropping me off and picking me up all day, as they had the same event, I thought I would just wait in the waiting room for a few hours. I get there and say to Rick that instead of dropping it, I was just going to wait but I had no problem with waiting a couple hours or how long they needed it. Rick then told me that I couldn't wait in the waiting room because the waiting room was not open that day for customers to sit there. He told me I could sit in my car and wait, which didn't really make sense at all because how could I sit in my car the whole time of they needed it to fix what they needed to do and where would I go while they were fixing it? Why would your waiting room not be open to customers? Whether I had to wait a little while to be picked up or whether I waited the entire time, why would the waiting room be closed, and why would that not be something told to a customer? In all fairness I understand that he thought I was dropping it off, but things change and had I known ahead of time that wasn't an option I wouldn't have changed plans. I would think that not allowing customers to have the option to wait there, would be something that would have been mentioned ahead of time, in any situation, as people run late or have emergencies, etc. and things change without notice. Is this a common thing, not allowing customers to wait in the waiting room on certain days of the week when the business is open for service? Keep in mind, the only reason I had to bring it back was because they needed to redo something they didn't do completely/correctly the day of initial service. In closer review of my recent, they didn't just charge for a total of 2.5 hours of service, which is what the time frame was from the time I called to tell them to start the work and the time he called to say it was ready, they charged me time for each different piece of service separately so it looks like they charged me like $400/hr for labor ($871.20 for 2.5hrs of labor). Is this usual? Do calipers alone cost $285 each? Online they look like they like cost $100 each...? I am not necessarily looking to leave a bad review because they did fix my car and in a timely manner, and just like for me that day, I understand that things change and things happen, so I had no problem bringing it back for them to redo what they needed to do, but the change in attitude and level of customer service from the day of initial service to the follow up service was very different. Not at all pleasant or helpful on the follow up.
