Avoid this Dealership, especially the Service Department.
If I could give negative stars to Northland Kia’s service department, I absolutely would. After years of trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because of the AB Package I purchased, I’m finally done. Their lack of professionalism, dishonesty, and complete disregard for customer safety has pushed me past frustration and straight into disbelief.

For years, I brought my vehicle in for the oil changes included in my package. Almost every time, my hybrid system would fail afterward. I usually managed to limp the car back, but one time it completely died and had to be towed. Northland’s roadside assistance quoted over 24 hours to retrieve my car from the side of the road, so an acquaintance helped me get it moved. Kia promised to reimburse me for that tow. They never did.

My check engine light kept coming on. Despite my warranty and their own inspections, I was repeatedly told that if they didn’t find anything, I would be charged for diagnostic time. I went to a reputable independent mechanic, and in five minutes they identified a failing catalytic converter—without charging me a cent. When I returned to Kia, they acted irritated that I had gone elsewhere, but of course, the mechanic was right. My converter was failing. They still refused to offer a rental (and they don't have service vehicles apparently), despite the fact that my job requires reliable transportation.

More recently, I tried to book another oil change. No returned phone calls. Then they switched to texting, and even though I responded within minutes, they took two days each time to reply. By the time they bothered answering, the appointment they themselves offered was already “taken,” and they told me I’d have to wait another week. When I wrote back asking for another available time, they simply never responded again.

And now to the final breaking point.

In the summer of 2025, after another oil change, my car started acting up again. Northland Kia told me my 12V battery just needed “a good charge” because I supposedly only do city driving (which is wildly inaccurate—I drive constantly, across the city and out to the mountains).

They also mentioned my issues might be related to spark plugs and that they would need my car for “a couple days”—as if I could just go without a vehicle for work. That comment alone was confusing, but what my mechanic later found was worse:

When my trusted mechanic inspected my vehicle, he found my spark plugs covered in oil and my engine oil massively overfilled—a clear sign of sloppy, careless work under the hood. The kind of work that can ruin an engine. I honestly wish I had taken pictures because what he described was unacceptable.

He also confirmed my 12V battery was essentially dead and needed immediate replacement. I agreed to have a new one ordered. It was Friday, and so I didn't expect anything until the following week.

Yesterday (Monday) evening, my car completely died in my garage—lights flickering, electronics going haywire, then everything shutting down. I couldn’t even start it. I had to find coverage at work last-minute. Thankfully, I ride a motorcycle and had a charger to get me through the night, but I’m incredibly grateful the car didn’t die while I was driving.

And all of this could have been avoided if Northland Kia had simply told me the truth about the battery, the spark plugs, and the overfilled oil.

Northland Kia should be ashamed of their service department. I have dealt with many dealerships, and none have been this consistently negligent or dismissive. They have wasted my time, cost me money, and put my safety at risk more than once.

I still appreciate the sales team I originally worked with—but the service department makes this dealership one I will warn everyone to avoid.
