Having worked in the credit card payment industry for over 20 years I can tell you that the charge for accepting and processing credit cards is part of the business owner’s cost of doing business and should not be pushed down to the customer… The business chose to accept credit/debit cards as forms of payment so why should I as the customer have to pay for that decision??? And yes, about 10 years ago, the credit card companies started to allow businesses to charge a surcharge fee, however, sometimes the fact that you’re able to do something doesn’t mean you should do it, especially when you depend on customers using your service in order to survive.
Personally for me, it sends the wrong message to customers.
I paid it because I had no choice. I made the mistake of not asking and did not see the sign they have announcing the surcharge until after my car service was completed and I went inside to pay.
My mistake as I NEVER give my business to a company that is going to charge me for a decision they made to accept credit/debit cards as forms of payment.
Lesson learned for me…
Next time I’ll be more careful and ask the business before going…
