I brought in my car for an issue of difficulty getting up hills and skipping/misfiring, whatever the term is. I was told that there was an issue with the timing and there were several components that needed to be replaced, crankshaft, timing chain, a pin, etc, totalling $5k. I was told they were pretty certain this would fix the issue, that there was a possibility that it might be a something simpler, but that would mean a lot more diagnostics when they were sure that this was the issue anyways. After waiting a couple weeks for the parts and repairs, my car was finally worked on. The tech noted there was a lot of sludge in the engine, he recommended cleaning it out. I said okay, will do, we have been changing the oil, but okay. Then they test drove it, during the test drive they said it was having the exact same issues I brought it in for, and now it was coding for a new transmission, that I was told would be another $5k. Mind you, this car is a 2020, with less than 90k miles on it. I do not think cars that new should have catastrophic engine failure. I said I needed to think about it and come up with a plan. I reached out to corporate Hyuandai to see if there was anything they could do. A week and half later I got a call from you saying you will start charging me storage fees if I did not pay what was owed. It was at this time that I was also informed FOR THE FIRST TIME that my car also needs a new engine in addition to a new transmission. This had NOT been communicated before. I wouldn't have wasted any time debating whether I should try to pay for the new transmission too or not. I said I would get back soon. Corporate Hyuandai got back to me that afternoon and said they had tried to get some goodwill coverage, but that Piazza refused, claiming it was my negligence that caused the sludge and therefore all of the issues. They said there was no record of oil being changed after I purchased the car from Enterprise. As I had said, the oil had been changed, it had just been done at home. I also consulted with a lawyer, unsure if I was required to pay for repairs that didn't fix the issue with my car. After the weekend, I got a call on Monday from another service rep threatening to call the cops and have my car taken away if I didn't pay that day. I paid the $5k the next day and got the car towed to a third party for evaluation.
Those initial repairs should NOT have been done on an engine that needed to be replaced anyway!! Piazzas negligence and incompetence in diagnostics caused me to have to pay $5k in unnecessary repairs. In addition, communication throughout this entire ordeal was terrible. Almost every time I called, I was told someone would call me right back. This almost never happened.
Why was I not told about the engine?? What if I had okayed the transmission replacement, and then gotten an Oopsie, you also need a new engine!! Then I would have been $10k in the hole and still not had a car!!
I will never get a Hyuandai again! And I will make sure to warn as many people as I can about your incompetence and general nastiness as I can!!
