I had a horrible experience at Sport Durst Hyundai.
Throughout the process, I was repeatedly asked to provide my visa status to the point that I felt compelled to bring my passport in person. During this visit, the finance manager, Sean, held my Canadian passport, took multiple photographs of it, and then proceeded to ask me, “Are you sure you are a Canadian citizen?” I found this interaction deeply insulting, inappropriate, and discriminatory, particularly as a Black man. It made me feel profiled and disrespected.
In addition to this, the dealership unilaterally altered the financial terms we had already agreed upon. The original offer I signed was $403 per month for 60 months at 0% interest. This was later changed—without my consent—to $455 per month for 72 months at 6.99% interest. I clearly stated that this was not the agreement I entered into and that I had chosen the original offer specifically to avoid higher interest and increased total cost.
I was then told that Hyundai would not finance the vehicle because my visa was “not typical.” I explained, multiple times, that Canadian citizens do not obtain visas through embassies and that entry documentation is issued at the border—information I also supported by showing my valid Canadian passport. Unfortunately, my explanations were ignored.
At that point, I felt cornered and left with no reasonable options, other than being pressured into a significantly worse financial agreement—three weeks after a deal had already been finalized. This experience gives the impression that the changes were made solely to extract more money from me, which I consider entirely unfair and unacceptable.
This situation has left a lasting negative impression, and it is an experience I feel compelled to share publicly unless it is properly addressed and I will continue to share with whoever cares to listen, and I will tell all my brothers and associates to drop nice reviews for you anywhere and everywhere online.
