Great service - honest people
Had our car towed to Tinker Automotive due to an issue with our horn. Some mechanics would have taken advantage of us and sold us a ton of unneeded stuff but they went out their way to find us a used fuse box for our (old) car and didn’t do any extra work that wasn’t needed. We’ve been customers for a long time and find the whole crew very honest and dependable.

What a Maine inspection should be!
Honest detailed inspection. I learned things about my vehicle that I did not know. I am a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, so I am not easily fooled. My visit to a dealer where the goal was to sell a new car with a bundle of “safety critical” repairs that needed to be done right now amounting to several thousand dollars was disappointing. Not so at Tinkers. They actually found defects that were missed by the dealer. I actually read the Maine State Inspection requirements. Tinkers inspection was right on.
I helped a friend prepare an older vehicle for inspection. The air bag light was on. Tinker identified the problem and a fix is underway.
In addition, the office staff was very helpful. If you are looking for mechanical or electrical auto repair, I highly recommend Tinker.

Brake job
I’ve been to Tinker’s many times over the years, and I’ve always found them to be completely honest and dependable. They’ll fix what you need and advise you of any concerns, but they don’t try to upsell for $$$ like many other garages do. Even today, I brought my van in for a brake job, and told them I wasn’t sure if I needed just fronts or front & rear. They assessed the issue, fixed just the fronts and advised me of the remaining life on my rear brakes. I’ve seen other shops that would replace everything just because I didn’t know better, just for the $$$, whether I needed the repairs or not. Also, the owner is local, and his reputation for honesty & hard work precede him everywhere he goes. For these reasons, I trust Tinker Automotive and highly recommend them to anyone.

So professional and helpful
I explained I was in Windham to help a family member and needed an inspection and oil change. The office was so understanding and was able to help me. My goal is to schedule my next oil change with them and worth it for me to travel there. Very trustworthy.

Work needed for sticker
Had a bunch of items that needed attention for a sticker. When doing the work they realized one of the items needing repair was mis-diagnosed and rather than just doing the repairs quoted, they were honest and explained the situation and did only the work needed.

Use to be reasonable and honest, they got some business now are corrupt as a new car dealer.
They use to be a good shop and helped people. As soon as they got some business they went as corrupt as a new car dealership. Don't waste your time if you have a car over 4 year old. They are snobs now.
