Don't ignore the red flags
The vehicles are overpriced about 10%, they seem friendly only to take advantage of you, they throw shady numbers and do not speak clearly, being dishonest is the best quality any salesman. I will not go into the details of the particular sales person, but your usual weasel. Walk away.

Owns this car
We drove by, saw the vehicle out front, was greeted by Ivan, test drove the car, went in talked to Jason. Came back a week later, took the vehicle we wanted home after the ice storm. The process was easy, they were great on everything. It was a pleasure doing business with them. 5*service. ?

Quick and Simple!
Came into the dealership looking for car and came out with one a couple days later! My man Ivan helped me out with everything. I was able to test drive the car and everything. Good people and good work over a VDubs!

Definition of the phrase "run around"
Much like the street this is located on this place is shady. Ended up buying a car from them, and overall it's fine, but it's obvious they tried to hide some damage in the back. They used masking tape, some non matching paint and had the rear wiper on upside down (It was literally wiping the painted portion of the rear). My first clue should have been when I showed up from 4 hours south to test drive it and the radio and seat didn't even work. (They did fix the seat and radio after about a week of trying to negotiate with them about it) How was this not noticed by them before trying to sell?
But all in all, some of that was on me. The part that really makes them 1 star for me is how dishonest their sales guy Scott is. I spent two months trying to call and text to get the things that they forgot to ship with the car. Literally just needed them to send me a box with the extra key fob and rear head rest that mysteriously vanished from the vehicle between the time I test drove it and it shipping. 2 months of him promising he would send it, and then 2 or 3 times it was "in the mail", and yet somehow, I never got the items. I've tried to call them to talk to someone else, but he screens the calls.
Thank god I don't seem to have a lemon, but I would suggest trying elsewhere in case you aren't as lucky. They can't even send me a box in the mail, they certainly won't help you with anything else.

Run don't walk away...especially if hear Westlake Financing
Don't walk RUN from this company! And if they mention financing through Westlake run as fast and far as you can!!! It didn't give me the option to give negative stars or I would have. This dealer runs scams with Westlake financial and preys on people with poor credit.
November 30th my husband was in an accident in my car that I loved and it was half way paid off and no late payments ever. It was declared a total loss and I found out the hard way that I had not added rental coverage when I handed my other two vehicles down to my teenage sons. This left a mom of 4 with two jobs scrambling to get a car with no down payment and my credit at a low point still showing the loan on the totaled car. I started looking and found the exact car I wanted. I conceded that my interest rate was going to be pretty high at this point but was on the path to repairing my credit within the next few months so I agreed to the loan knowing that I would refinance it for a lower rate in a few months. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. This all happened right before Christmas of course but I went through with the purchase anyway and my first payment was due on 1/18.
Since I still had to make my payment on my previous vehicle even though it was wrecked and I basically walked away empty handed (thank god I didn't owe....always get gap insurance) I had no down payment and knew my options were limited. The dealer (VDubsonly) that had the car I wanted got me approved through Westlake. He made it sound like they were a great company and would probably work with me to refi through them when it was time. I had found the car online so I contacted them immediately and worked with Scott throughout the entire deal. The car was originally listed for 14,990 and had been reduced to 13,990. I immediately applied for financing. Since I work some nights I was not going to be able to come in that night but told him I would be in the next evening after work. He told me he was not supposed to hold a car with nothing down but that if I was serious he would do that for me.
I went down there the following evening as promised and completed the paperwork. He had told me the car would be ready for me to test drive however it was on the showroom floor so there was no way this was happening. 2 days later I went again after work and again the car was on the showroom floor so I was not able to test drive it. I loved the car though so much that I ignored that red flag. When we were signing the actual paperwork at the ridiculous rate of 18.39% APR I asked about the cost. We had added an extended warranty for 1,295 and Gap coverage for 395. When he presented the paperwork he had the selling price 15990. When I asked him about this he said it was how he wrote it up so he could make it look like I put 1200 cash down. He said the other part of it was an $800 dealer fee or something that with bigger dealers they absorb but since this was a smaller dealer the cost goes to the customer. It still did not seem to add up to me but I really loved the car and I felt I had no other real options so I let that red flag go too. He is very good at making you feel like he is doing you favors when he is not. So we finished up the paperwork but the car was again not ready for me to even drive let alone take home, still on the showroom floor and inspection still needed to be done.
I came back that Saturday to pick up the car. I noticed the emergency call buttons located on the roof of the car just pushed up into the roof if you touched it. He said when I came back to get the second key he would look at it. The tire pressure light came on immediately after driving away so I came back and he told me oh it is because it’s gotten colder. Ok. I will reset it and see what happens. I also noticed on my way home that there was a chip/crack in the windshield. When I made him aware of it he said it was sealed which I didn’t think was right but ok if its sealed and not going to get worse ok. By this point he is being a lot less responsive and acting either as if he we never discussed certain things or was annoyed when I would contact him. I had also told him while signing the papers I had personal plates I was taking off my wrecked car and transferring to this one. Another thing he seemed to forget so he turned in all the paperwork for the registration without the correct plates. When I picked up the car I again mentioned the personal plates and he acted like we never talked about it. He told me to give him the plate info and I sent him a pic of them. He said he would have his guy fix it. That never got done. I ended up having to go to the tax assessor’s office 4 times because they said the title paper work had not been submitted for transfer. It took more than two months to finally get that done.
As it got colder in late December the crack spread through the entire windshield making it hard to see so I went ahead and paid to have it replaced. A little under $400 since it has the rain sensors. At this point I was very happy with my car, had fixed the windshield, he had fixed the emergency button and all that was missing was the 2nd key which he kept telling me was ordered but they were way behind at the VW dealer.
Now let’s fast forward to January. After Christmas, still having to make the payment on the old car and trying to come up with the high payment on the new car as well as replace the windshield. I was late. My last loan and every other auto loan I have ever had with reputable companies have 10-15 day grace period where they don't even charge you a late fee or report it late. I figured this company would also have that. I was VERY wrong. Not only does this company have zero grace period you are considered in default the very first day you are late. In their contract they have a couple sentences about default. It states that you are in default if you do not meet each and every promise OR if THEY BELIEVE you won't. (How do you determine this? And take note that they don't have to keep their promises). The dealer, nor the finance company makes you aware of this! And if it is your first payment they have a thing they call a dealer buy back that is nowhere in the contract nor do either company make you aware of this. (yeah I have never heard of this either, nor has anyone I know including people in the auto sales/finance industry or even attorneys.) There is a statement about if you are past 15 days late (10 for commercial vehicles) you will be charged a late charge of 5% of the payment. Pretty interesting when they can say you are in default at 1 day late.
Westlake will harass you with phone calls where they leave no information other than call us back. With Working 2 jobs and raising 4 kids I don't have time to answer all the calls that I get that I don't know who they are from. They do not contact you via email or mail. There will not be a certified letter like you would expect and see from reputable companies.
Fast forward to 2/1 (12 days late and inside that 15 day period before a late charge is supposed to be assessed) Westlake sent a demand to the dealer to buy back the car. The dealer (I believe without realizing it) sent me this request 10 days later. I don’t believe they want the customer to see it. In this demand they basically cancel your financing, requesting the dealer buy the car back all WITHOUT your knowledge. They do not send you any written intent, no emails or any calls specifying the severity of the situation. They don't want you to know what is going on. In the letter to the dealer they actually specify that they are not to contact you to let you know what is happening and that even if you make a payment after this request that it is TOO LATE. However they will accept your payment and assure you everything is resolved and the account is in good standing. Which I will get to shortly. I had one missed call from Scott on 2/4 (which was already too late) just asking I call him back. I figured it was about the key which was not urgent.
2/9 I was in bed on a Friday night after working both jobs and nearly asleep when I get a text from Scott (dealer)at 11:45 PM and I was nearly asleep. The text states that he is reporting the car stolen and I need to immediately return it to them or I will be arrested. WHAT?? I had planned to make the payment complete with the late fee the very next morning. I called Scott to try to figure out what was going on. He informs me that they now own the car and I do not and again that it is reported stolen so I have to return it. I told him I would call the finance company first thing in the morning and get it all straightened out. I thought this has to be some sort of mistake.
I do exactly that as soon as they open. I was shocked to find out they have a whole department that handles first payments that are even 1 day late. You would think if they had the need for a whole department to handle this that it would be a big enough issue to make sure you clearly point that out to the customer from the beginning. I explained things to the rep that answered. She accepted my payment and assured me that everything would be resolved and this buy back (which I still did not understand at this point) would be cancelled now that the account was paid in full, in good standing and the next payment was not due yet. I called the dealer back to let him know. He said I needed to have them call him. I called and they said they would not but if I gave him authorization he could call and they could talk to him regarding my account. I did that. He called and told me everything was good. I again called them and they assured me of the same thing. Monday morning, I text the dealer to again verify everything is resolved. He texts me back telling me that it is, thanks me for handling it and we discuss when I will get my second key that was part of the deal and to let him know when a good time would be that I could go to the dealer in Arlington to have the key programmed. Which again seemed odd and I wondered why he didn’t just send me down there in the first place.
After I returned to work from lunch that very same day, just hours later I get a call from our receptionist that there is someone to see me about my car. Again I am thinking there must be some communication that was crossed and this is a mistake. It is not Scott who I have been dealing with but another guy from the dealership. I tell him that the Scott just told me earlier that all was fine and was told that he was lying to me and didn’t want to face me with the truth. I need to give him the car now or he will call the cops. I beg him to hang on while I try to talk to Scott and figure out what is going on. There must be something that can be done and a way to resolve this, after all the account is current. This guy tells me I have to get all my stuff out NOW as he is on a time schedule. I tell him I will have to get a box or something. He then tells me no. I will have to come to the dealership (which mind you is a 30-45 minute drive and they are taking my only transportation) because he won't wait. He again threatens to call the police. So I grab a few things and let him take the car. I don't want the police coming to my place of employment. This was embarrassing enough already. For the next few days I am sent in this endless cycle of being sent back and forth between the dealer and finance company. Westlake is clear that they will not refund my payment I just made and that the account was in review but there is no time line on how long that would take or even what the point was. Neither company would refund the cost of the windshield replacement either. So I am out a car, a car payment, the money for the windshield, and now have two current car loans on my credit as my total loss one was still showing as was this one and I can’t qualify for another loan to get my car back. Scott says over the last week that he knew of this buy back which I did not he had been trying everything to get another company to finance it. Which now made sense why credit Karma is notifying me of credit inquires. I had just assumed it was the ones from December since that app is not always totally accurate. At this point Scott was no longer trying to help would not return my texts or if he did would not answer my direct questions. He had never given me copies of my paperwork (they were going to be mailed) and even after multiple requests I never did get the copies from the dealer. That was the only thing the finance company actually did help me with. It is hard to get financing when you are not a dealer, don’t have the paperwork with the numbers, don’t know how long you have and have two current car loans reporting on your credit with no help from the dealer. At this point I didn’t know if I should be applying for a refinance or as a new purchase which it was too early to refi and can’t do a new purchase without paperwork and the numbers. After a day or two of trying to find financing on my own which is much harder than with the dealer I realize although I loved my car do I really want to try to do business with either company? Thank god I didn't put anything down as I am sure that I would have lost that too. After all this is a scam and they are making money on it somehow. If not they would make sure they gave you the details about this buy back and immediate default. Why would they want to go through buying back a car? They are in the business of selling cars. Why would the finance company want to revoke a loan? That is their business in finance. They wouldn’t have these no warning, no way to resolve technicalities to take your car if their goal was keeping you in it.
The next weekend when I went to get my stuff out of the car my Spectrum cable box was missing from the trunk. I had it in there because I cancelled service and was planning on dropping it off. The whole time my friend and I are there getting my stuff Scott is telling my friend how he’s on my side blah blah. I mention the cable box missing at which time he tells me that they haven't been able to get in the trunk because the other key didn't work. Um I guess working at VDUBSonly you don't know that a VW has a trunk release on the door? Weird... and tells me they would never take anything out of the trunk as if at this point I trust a word he says.
When I was still trying to get my car back and had hoped if I appealed to the executives that maybe I had a shot. They are conveniently all on their website with email and phone contacts. I emailed them all telling them the story. I had a glimmer of hope when the president responded and told me he would look into it right away. He then had me work with another exec who was just as nasty and rude with no customer service skills as the rest of the people I had spoken to on the phone. He literally told me he would do nothing to help me, that he does not have to honor the fact that his employees assured me everything was resolved and tried to make me feel like a bank robber or some sort of criminal car theif because I was over 2 weeks late. Scott and the guy that picked up the car had the same attitude, yet in reality this buyback was set in motion on 2/1 (per written response from Westlake to my BBB complaint) which at that point the payment was only 12 days late and less than the 15 days their contract says you won’t even get a late charge. In less than 12 days of being late this whole process (scam) to take my car was set in motion and according to Westlake’s paperwork is a process that can’t be stopped no matter what you do even when they eagerly accept your payment and both companies boldface lie to you about it being resolved.
If you don’t want to take my word for this go ahead and look up their reviews and complaints on the BBB and Consumer Affairs pages as well as the majority of all reviews on both companies on any site that they don’t control. Westlake does a standard response that they are sorry you had a bad experience and will contact you directly which is nothing more than a letter telling you they can’t and won’t do anything and further make you out to be a criminal that is basically just short of trying to steal the car. And Vdubsonly responds with more attacks on the customer and it is their fault or straight up denial. Neither acknowledges that it would be a good business practice to make a point of highlighting these practices since they are unheard of with any other companies. It is also worth noting that neither company made any contact about intent, the fact that if the payment was even a day late I was at risk of his happening, however Scott had no problem texting me at almost midnight on a Friday night that the car was being reported stolen and I needed to immediately return it or would be arrested. I guess a car dealer that wants you to keep the car you purchased would not be as persistent to warn you before it’s too late but has no issue with persistency once there is nothing you can do and you can possibly be arrested for car theft auto. I am no salesman but I do know that salesmen are there to sell and don’t want to take the property or service back. That is clearly not demonstrated with this dealer. I also don’t work in finance but do know that most finance companies also don’t want to lose your business or have to take property back. They generally want to and will work with you to complete the contract. I have NEVER heard of either taking back a car or home when the account is caught up and they accepted the payment and late charge. Most finance companies will even give you the opportunity to get your car back after repossession. NOT this one! Not even late enough for the late payment assessment by the verbiage in their contract but will take your car with the account in good standing and there is no way to address and resolve this once it is in motion far before you are aware it is even a thing and refuse to refund anything you put into it.
I have since disputed the account to all 3 bureaus and told that exec that there better be nothing and I mean nothing about this loan on my credit. (It helps that I use to do credit repair and am very familiar with the fair Credit act etc.). They did finally remove it after a month.
The car is now reposted for sale at the $13,990 I was told was my purchase price yet somehow the contract says 15,990 less 1,200 but still ends up being just under $18K financed. That just doesn’t add up. The car is also listed inaccurately as far as mileage but with a nice brand new windshield I paid for.
Both companies are completely unethical and are running a scam on people that feel they have no other alternatives. It is truly disgusting that these companies prey on people that are struggling or are in situations where their credit is low and they feel this is their only option. This has created a serious hardship on my entire family and neither company cares to do anything to make it right and be ethical in business as well as just as humans. If you read the other sites with complaints/reviews you will see this is not either company’s only scam. I would never do business again with either company and this may have actually been the best thing as I don't have to deal with them for another 5 years....horror story after horror story.. Do your research. If you do use this dealer, get your own financing and make sure you look over every detail and get everything in writing. Even then you are still at risk from what I have read. Wish I did my research
