Pure Fun but Still Hauls the Kids

The IONIQ 5N feels like what a mid-premium sports platform should feel like. Despite being 4800 pounds or thereabout, it feels nimble and is quick to engage. It takes a while to get used to all of the options available to the driver but I've come to really appreciate them. Despite N-Mode being an absolute riot to configure through the touchscreen, the physical buttons are also a huge quality of life bump from other near-price EV platforms. I don't have to hunt for functions. The buttons on the steering wheel get an extra shout-out from me. Keep my eyes on the road, please. Dollar-spent for the overall value of the car is outrageous. Driving feels like having cheat-codes in the pocket. Want to get some extra range and drive the kids around? Slap that thing in Eco-mode or Normal-mode. Want to have fun? Push that little N button on the steering wheel there and zip! N-Shift and all the sounds are fun but to be honest, it's not why I bought the car. You buy an EV because it busts out the HPs at 0 RPM. HOWEVER. Love it. Won't use it often, but love it. There are a few dynamics that could be better. There's some weirdness when the second motor engages after being de-prioritized and only energized to reduce drag. When it kicks in, especially if you have to stomp the throttle it's like driving a turbocharged car from the 90s. Movement, hesitation (lag), sudden surge of thrust. Sometimes jarring. Might be weird if you had to execute a move to try and get out of a potential accident. Regenerative breaking is great. Brakes are okay. Stout but the inverters make good work on that speed and the blending of brake transitions isn't something I even notice. Does it do that? I don't know, I'm just guessing by butt-feel. I gotta admit some jealousy around other IONIQ 5N models from around the world. Hyundai?! Why you do me dirty? Where's the fancy mirror from the AWD Limited? What about my HUD?! You can keep the glass roof because that bad boy is heavy and I hate the sun but you're killing me here on the other creature features! Maybe the Genesis Magma will get all of that and I'll have to trade in the 5N. Hint hint. Give me that sweet Koren 2.0 second 0-60! Shoot, go below 2.0 seconds; I wanna spank a Model S Plaid. E-GMP is a crazy platform, yall. Make more. Make them faster. Screw the battery, LFP ain't it and them solid state cells are near, right? And for the love of all that is holy, make it a wagon so I can hunt Mercedes dads!

Fun car, poor reliability

The 5N is very fast, very comfortable, very fun to drive and a great EV. It was frustrating when the ICCU failed and left me stranded after only 5000 miles. It was also frustrating that it took a month at the dealer to fix. It was even more frustrating to learn that ICCU issues have plagued Ioniq 5 and other E-GMP platform vehicles since they were introduced years ago, and still Hyundai has no solution. I would not recommend the car due to this issue.

It’s ok

it’s the car that I had wanted—a fun, unique car that handles pretty well (for a crossover.) It’s the details I’m disappointed in. Like, seriously, no walk away locking? I have ice cars that are over five years old that do this. The software isn’t as good as Tesla’s, which is what I had before this. But it does have turn stalks which is a plus. Also I’d expect a hud, which the lower trims have, but the n doesn’t? Just doesn’t seem right for where the car is positioned. After this lease is over I’m going to walk away from Hyundai.

Just lacks tech and better software

Vehicle is great, super fun to drive and obviously fast. The interface and some tech features are inconsistent. Door unlock on walk up is wildly inconsistent. There's no auto door lock on walk away which is a massive oversight on a vehicle that advertises itself as unlocked by sticking the door handles out. The app is limited compared to other EV maker's apps.

IONIQ 5 N review

The car is fun to drive and turns heads, but it's lack of OTA and basic features is weird. Lower trims receive chargers and adapters but the top trim for some reason is left in the dust. Going online youll see screens that don't exist in your car, a hud, front dash cam, and so many more are just not available. The car has potential, but not if Hyundai want's to keep cheaping out on the people trusting them with so much money. I hope changes can be made in the future. As a previous Elantra N owner, I want to see the brand continue.

The N experience electrified!

Hyundai N + Hyundai EV = The future of Hyundai performance, driving enjoyment, and brand credibility! The IONIQ 5 is the new benchmark for modern EVs in my opinion. Styling, features, driveability and value are comprehensively covered across the trim levels for the IONIQ 5. And for pure driving and performance enthusiasts, the 5 N sets the benchmark for current EVs. Own, test drive, or simply ride in one, and any doubts you may have about it will be eliminated. As a previous ICE Hyundai N-brand owner, I was not disappointed. All the elements of the N experience (styling, performance, driver interaction and integration, pure fun) are here, and now it's electrified! Newcomers may at first be overwhelmed by the numerous options and ways to tune the driving experience, but once you are accustomed to it, you realize how it can empower your driving experience rather than diminish it. Of course, you don't have to "dig into the weeds" in order to enjoy this car, you can choose to simply push a button or two and change from simple and easy EV, to peppy EV, to the most powerful and highest performing Hyundai ever made (so far!). This may be my pinnacle car for some time, but Hyundai continues to push the envelope for accessible performance cars, and EVs in particular, so it's quite possible I may get the next best thing from a brand that is no longer considered irrelevant in the performance car segment. Hands down, the IONIQ 5 N is the one to beat!

Favorite car of my life (so far)

Tons of performance and value in a very day-to-day-friendly package. While the performance is super-car level (call it a "hyper hatch"), and there are some trade-offs, those trade-offs are nothing like the old days of needing to buy a coupe was massive doors and terrible rear seats, or no rear seats at all, or having to spend six figures (back when six figures meant even more than it does today) on a vehicle of questionable reliability with extremely expensive maintenance (European options). There really is no true competitor with this feature set from capabilities to fun-to-drive factor to practicality.

The drivers seat NEEDS to be powered. it is so hard to get into a comfortable driving position with the manual seat and it makes the 70000 dollar car feel cheap!!!!!! and the hatch and door panels squeak a lot and it is very annoying and again makes the 70000 dollar car feel cheap!!!!

Setting the Bar For EV Sportscars

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is an SUV with the DNA of a sportscar. With how quick and nimble it can be on winding roads, you easily forget that it is nearly 5,000 lbs. It has a spacious interior fit for a small family, but the well-bolstered front seats keep you snug in place during spirit driving. As an EV, the higher price tag and lower battery range limit its market demographic. However, if you're looking for an EV that brings all the fun of a high-performance ICE vehicle, the cons are plenty justified.

Hyundai ioniq 5N, a nice surprise

This vehicle is a practical 4 door hatchback turned into a performance car. It has way more configurable settings than I will ever need, but they are there if I want to adjust them. The best part is that you don’t have to, you can drive it as it is using the pre configured settings. I was a little sad that some of the premium model features, power seats, heads up display and sunroof were left out of the car, especially since it is priced above the top optioned limited model.

A great car, just needs better range.

It’s a lot of fun to drive. Faster then my 2015 hellcat and handles better. I use this car as my daily driver and I have a lot of fun on my commute. I just think it can use more range. I’m in California with a lot of infrastructure for EVs, but owning this car in another state would be tough.

Defective Battery Pack

I brought my 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5N to the dealer service department 3 weeks ago for a "Check Electrical System" warning light and was told by the service manager that the issue is a defective battery pack that needed to be replaced. He said the battery pack is on order but does not have a firm date of when it will be available. Reading some posts online, it seems that there have been several incidents of battery pack failure and that some people have had to wait months for the replacement packs. It is unacceptable for the vehicle to be out of service for such an extended time. I have had the 5N for only a year and driven it less than 6500 miles. It is a 2 year lease and I am very concerned that I may not see the car repaired before the lease expires next year.

Hyundai Ioniq 5N - one year later

The car's retro style looks great. Performance is also top-notch. The ride is a little firm but compliant. Handling is good. The range is too low. There needs to be some work on the controls. For example, I can't see the AC temperature controls with my sunglasses on. The organization and dependencies of the advanced driving features need optimization. Above all, the car is fun to drive.
