An extremely competitive EV that's great to live with
The IONIQ 6 is a joy to commute with and is very satisfying to use. Efficiency is high. Charging is very fast. Range anxiety should not be a problem for the vast majority of drivers who actually try to live with this car. Power is amazing and extremely refined. Multiple drive modes work well. The design is very polarizing, but I find it attractive and similar to other desirable cars, such as the Porsche Panamera. The front and back seats are cavernous, and have some of the most leg room I've ever seen. The drawbacks are few, but are hard to see at this price point. On the Limited trim, the sunroof is small and takes a lot away from the driver head room. If you are slightly taller than the average man, you may be very close to the ceiling. Android Auto is not available wirelessly, which feels behind other competitors. Suspension is firm, but the handling is not sporty. This means the ride is on the harsh side for a commuter, but that's usually a trade-off for sporty handling which is not the case here. Feels like a bit of the worst of both worlds, but I have to assume this has something to do with the weight of the battery and the cost of the suspension design. I wish we got the camera side mirrors in the US, but I understand that may have been out of Hyundai's control with regulation. There are no real options to disable nanny systems for sport or track use. Finally, the car is very long, with a very long wheelbase to match. Parking in tight quarters is a challenge and the 360° camera is very practical and necessary.
Overall, Hyundai is really taking the lead on EVs and providing an incredible vehicle with the IONIQ 6. I recommend it highly, and I hope we can start to see more vehicle like it.
