Do I love it YES, can it be better YES

I wanted an SUV with more capacity and range for roadtrips and this delivers. I definitely am loving the larger SUV of the 2026 Ioniq 9 Limited in Cosmic Blue with the two tone interior. I upgraded from the 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL for more cargo capacity due to young children and the want to go further for roadtrips stopping every 200-225 miles was a no. This vehicle is the family car and with gas prices at an all time high no regrets. I really enjoy the versatility, cargo space, sunroof, extra cameras, and extra nooks for storing all the child gear. The built in sunscreens for the window and the climate control are essential. The panoramic roof... yes please. The car picks up speed quickly. The visual dashboard I dislike immensely. In the Ioniq 5 I could clearly see when I was regenerative charging while driving and how many mpc I was getting in real time. Overall range is really good though efficiency is only 2.5 - 3.5. The gage doesn't even show anything over 6 as an option compared to the 8 on the Ioniq 5. I have not tried to drive it in the snow yet but looking forward to the winter. I live at a high altitude and it drives up and down the mountains with ease. I on average get around 3.2 roundtrip (down and back up the mountain). I would love to have storage for the cargo cover in the back under the seats and more than one location to use the cargo cover. I dislike that they changed the steering wheel button configuration, the electronic automation of moving chairs and the biggest issue is that it currently can not sense there is a child seat in the bucket chair and if you accidently hit the move for the back row button it tries to crush the child seat. A lock feature on a child seat would be great. I also would love to direct sound to the back only to allow the little one to hear soft music while we drive up front and talk. You can make it quieter in the back but not the opposite. I loved my Ioniq 5 immediately this one has taken a little more time but every time I find a new feature I love it a little more.

Love our new Ionic 9

My wife and I are owners of a 2015 Tesla Model S and were previously owners of a 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan. We both love our Tesla, and as the Toyota was getting older, we decided to replace it with an all-electric Hyundai Ioniq 9. We pretty much love the increased space, performance and practicality of the Ioniq 9, but we do miss some of the basic features the Tesla offers that the Ioniq does not. One of those features is the ease of getting in and driving away. With the Tesla, when we approach the car, the doors unlock automatically. Once inside, the car is ready to go as soon as the brake pedal is pressed and the gear is selected. When we put it in Park, exit the vehicle, and walk away, it shuts off and locks itself automatically. Of course, as you are aware, the Ioniq does not work this way. We have to turn the car off and then press the door handle to lock it. I really wish it worked more like the Tesla. We actually experienced a somewhat confusing situation with this. On one occasion, my wife got into the Ioniq and pressed the Start button without first putting her foot on the brake pedal. The car would not go into gear. Neither of us could figure out why, so we had to call our salesman. He told us to exit the vehicle, lock it, and then get back in, put our foot on the brake, and press the Start button. This solved the problem, and she was able to drive away—although with considerably less confidence than she would have had in the Tesla. These may seem like small things, but after years of driving the Tesla, we have become accustomed to how simple and seamless those features are. It would be great if Hyundai could offer a similar experience in the Ioniq 9.

Nice car, could have better suspension. Infotainment is the same as other Hyundai vehicles. The find a charger is a joke. To the point i pay for Tesla charging app. Because its easier to use than the cars infotainment.

Good but could be improved

The built-in navigation is confusing. I have a hard time figuring out how to input a new destination and this should be the easiest thing to do. Finding the charging controls is very hard and they are several menus seep. They should be on the top menu. Spread is on Google maps should be on driver console like out side temperature. Lane centering seems a little wobbly and when it goes by an exit without markings on the road it tries to center on the outside line thus pulling sideways. Tire pressure display only shows pressures when you have driven a distance. I need to know if the pressure is low so I can do something about it before I leave.

Great, spacious car, great range and charge speed

Great range, spacious, great charging speed that we will almost never use because it goes so far, well thought out interior. Stereo is great, heating and cooling work well, 3rd row is easy to move up and down. Only quibbles are the front seat bolsters push my shoulders forward and the headrest pushes my head forward in an uncomfortable way. Additionally, the expensive front fascia panel cracked when a pebble got kicked up off the road. And there are no walk away locks.

My first Hyundai

I expected more luxury for price I paid. Does not compare to luxury and ride of previous Audi etron. To be fair that was a level up in price class.

My ionic 9 has spent longer sitting at the dealership waiting on parts and waiting to be worked on than I have spent driving it since I bought it. Once my lease is up I will never return to Hyundai, which is so sad because on paper this is the perfect car for my family.

2026 Ioniq 9 SEL

So far, so good. Very quiet, powerful, and pretty good range. Although winter hasn't come yet. Small annoyances include the automatic door handles sometimes opening on approach, sometimes not (fob battery changed to check); seatbelts rattle if previous user didn't undo the belt *just right*; and carplay sometimes goes away. Other annoyances on a vehicle at this price point include: no seat memory (really?), and no automatic window opening for rear windows (again, really?). But, I only have 1,200 miles on this vehicle so far, so it's really early yet. If Hyundai wants to understand the user experience, ask for feedback again after a year of use - how can I rate "reliability" after only a couple of months of ownership?
