Great vehicle but needs some changes
Overall, I genuinely love my Hyundai Palisade. It’s comfortable, beautiful, spacious, and has a lot of great features. There are just a few things Hyundai seriously needs to rethink.
First, the Highway Driving Assist is disappointing. For a vehicle at this price point with this much technology, I expected the system to be much smoother and more reliable. The lane centering and overall highway assistance do not inspire confidence, and it’s one of my biggest complaints about the vehicle.
Second, the 2nd row power-folding rear seats need a complete redesign. If the seats are going to be powered instead of manual, they should at least be fast and convenient. They are painfully slow. In the time it takes them to mechanically fold or raise, I could have manually moved the seats myself and been done. Either make the system significantly faster or redesign it altogether.
I also really dislike that the rear hatch glass does not open independently. On a large family SUV, being able to quickly open the rear glass and grab something without raising the entire liftgate would be incredibly useful. This feels like a feature the Palisade should have.
Finally, Hyundai needs to rethink how it handles the matte paint option. If you are selling a premium vehicle with factory matte paint, adequate paint protection should be part of that package. Customers should not be sold a beautiful matte finish and then immediately be upsold additional paint protection because the finish requires special care. Build the necessary protection into the price of the paint option from the beginning.
Those complaints aside, I really do love the Palisade. If Hyundai improved the Highway Driving Assist, completely reworked the powered rear seats, added opening rear hatch glass, and better addressed protection for the matte paint from the factory, I would have very little left to complain about. It’s an excellent SUV with a handful of frustrating design decisions holding it back from being nearly perfect.
