Performance and Practicality Unite
You won't find my specific vehicle for sale because it is a custom order. I have a 3-door S with the Performance Package and 6-speed manual transmission. That means it's the lowest level trim with a key (no fob) and the traditional plaid seats. It doesn't have anything extra that doesn't help the performance.
I drive this car everywhere, so it has 155K miles on it. Because it's a German car meant for the Autobahn, everything still performs the way it did when it was new. This car is a rocket and the handling is amazing. It came with Bridgestone summer tires which really weren't that great. I now run Continental Pro-Contact Sport summer tires and love them. They are the best tires I've had on the car so far.
I'll admit the ride is stiff, but the seats are very adjustable, making it easy to find a comfortable driving position. For roots as an economy car, there are a lot of nice features like heated seats and adjustable interior lighting. All GTIs are very practical cars. The hatch is quite roomy by itself, but drop one or both seats and the cargo is cavernous. I put a bale of hay in the car once with lots of room to spare.
My only complaint is that the volume on the stereo has too wide of spacing, so the music is almost always too loud or too soft. Also, I'd like another 50-80 horsepower, but I could always take the car to a tuner for that. Right now it's completely stock.
The car doesn't need a lot of repairs, but it's a little expensive to maintain. When it does need repair, it tends to be costly. Oil changes run about $180 because it uses five quarts of full synthetic oil and my mechanic puts an additive in as well.
