STAY FAR AWAY!
I have NEVER posted a negative review but I feel compelled to make people aware of the blatant disrespect and incompetence recently from Coastal Automotive in Awendaw. If you have ever thought of using them, don't. If you use them .. I would greatly reconsider.

A little background...

We had been using them for years for oil changes and routine maintenance (brakes, batteries, etc) and have just had two major problems with two separate cars that had to be serviced by their individual dealerships. They both brought up red flags on the work that was done that caused bigger issues because corners were cut.

Most recently, we brought my SUV into there for a front end vibration issue, I was charged for replacing the mounts and then went back to pick it up. It was fine when I left then immediately started again and this time worse. I was advised to bring it back and then found out the part was now backordered and ended up waiting an additional 3 months for that to come in to be replaced again. In the interim I was advised it was safe to drive until it came in and when it finally did it never fixed the actual issue. At this point I was advised to bring it to the dealer and their price to change the mounts was not only lower but they said I should not have drove it, another faulty part was used and now I need a new transmission. I called them to make them aware and spoke with their front office guy, Zach, about the situation and to get a refund since the work they completed did not fix the issue and the diagnosis and advice was incorrect. He then connected me with Toby, the shop owner, to have a discussion. He heard me out and begrudgingly approved a refund saying "let's do this and both go on our merry way". Zach called me back on a Friday and we arranged to pick up the check after that weekend.

Now I do not have a car (as it's with the dealer having the transmission fixed) and work from home so my wife swung by yesterday to pick it up while getting our 3 year old from school. We have 5 kids so one car has been difficult to coordinate to say the least. While she was there I received a phone call while on a work webinar from their service manager, Zach and was met with "why can't you be a man and pick up your own check". Damn I didn't realize it was going to be a check pick up like that otherwise I would have dusted off the old s**t kickers and happily went down there.. so much for our "merry way. I am still debating going down there now but I have a family to take care of and would prefer to be with them and not in jail because of dealing with these clowns.

All in all, unless you like to fight, get shabby work done on your cars and deal with completely incompetent and disrespectful people I would recommend going elsewhere.

UPDATE: After posting this a couple minutes ago in our HOA page, 6 neighbors had eerily similar situations and bad experiences. STAY AWAY

Incompetent and Rude - Stay Away!

I won't be returning
The customer service is horrible. They stated they were so backed up and honestly they did not assist me with my vehicle but charged me a towing fee and service fee to use their credit card machine. The brothers who owned this place before were extremely nicer and cared about the customer. I will never return to this place.

This place isn't the same!
I remember the two brothers who previously owned this place and they were really nice and cared about people in that area. They were really trustworthy. I own a Jeep/Liberty and they had my car for 1 week. They stated they were unable to look at it right away because I did not have an appointment (red flag). Once they looked at it, Luke called to say I need to take it to the dealership because he did not have the software to diagnose the problem. I just feel he wasn't interested in assisting me. I also had to pay $175 for the towing fee and on top of that a 10% fee to use my credit card. I don't recommend this place to anyone at this point because Luke never said, this is what I did and it didn't work or I'm going to try this to make it work. He simply told me he cannot help me. This place isn't the same in terms of customer service.

Very disappointing.
Really disappointed. I had been going to this garage for years. The shop is now struggling. They have lost many of their long term employees. I needed an oil change and shift cable replaced on my Jeep. The technician working on my vehicle broke the 4 wheel drive shift cable while trying to repair the 2 wheel drive shift cable. They did not try to make it right in the least. My options were leave with the 4 wheel drive not functioning or pay double to have another cable replaced. And, it took a week to do this as a technician quit while my vehicle was there. The individuals at the front desk were horrid. The young man looked oblivious and disinterested. The young woman at the front desk’s idea of customer service was to refer me to the garage where one of the long term employees had gone. Just really disappointed in the lack of professionalism and customer service.

They stand behind what they do!
I had service done on a 2005 Ford diesel van. The check engine light indicated a problem with the glow plugs. Estimate for fix was approx $400. In doing the work they found that the entire cab needed to be lifted off to get to the glow plugs that were bad. Now estimate was $2100 plus what I had already paid. I wasn't going to spend that kind of money for cold weather start aids in SC. They credited me for the $$$ I paid for the previous work because it didn't fix the problem. No argument, no BS. I'll not hesitate to take a vehicle to them again as I know they are trustworthy.

Excellent customer service!
Zach has always given me excellent service. The service was very quick and the work. I had an issue while installing my rear shocks and couldn’t get the old one out. So I called Zach and he told me to bring it in. The next day, the work was complete and I could pick up my car. I am truly impressed with their service and will use them for all my future car repairs.

Highly Recommend!
Needed a battery install as required by a professional as Advanced Auto said they couldn't do. Bought battery, called Coastal from Advanced Auto, and they got me in immediately and installed battery. Super professional, great service, and price was right. Highly recommended.

Terrific Again
I love taking my car to Coastal Automotive. Toby and his group are loyal, honest and skilled. I know my car will be fixed correctly and with no runaround or unnecessary sales pitch for add ons. I highly recommend Coastal Automotive!
