Yes, on this particular vehicle (a 27 year old Saturn), we did see the car 3 times for coolant leak(s). The first visit was due to a misfire (valve cover leaking into the spark plug hole). In all instances, the vehicle was towed in (at no expense to the vehicle owner). And, had different various leaks that developed. As was explained to the this customer, this vehicle is 27 years old. As such, after pressure testing, we repaired the area(s) that were leaking (up to and including a repair to a transmission leak and one of the hoses given to the customer at no charge). On each visit, the vehicle underwent pressure testing (a test to pressurize the cooling system for presence of leaks) and a hydrocarbon test (a test that is conducted to look for the presence of hydrocarbons/exhaust in the coolant (which would indicate a failed head gasket). This vehicle passed hydrocarbon and presented with different leaks. As was explained to the customer, on a vehicle that is 27 years old with unknown service history, leaks on hoses and various other components is always possible. There is no crystal ball for when things are going to break. However, there is an indication that the older the vehicle, the higher the probability of mechanical breakdown (especially leaks as the 'ol girl keeps trying to give more service).
