Do not Purchase this Vehicle

I purchased this vehicle brand new and within the last 1.5 years it has not started 3 times, had an engine issue, and recall. If you want to save yourself the hassle purchase from a reliable brand such as Toyota or Honda.

Good, but not great!

I have enjoyed many aspects of of my 2024 Kona, except for the following four areas: 1. The doors do not automatically unlock when I walk up to get in; 2. The steering wheel handle often comes down on its own: 3. The update process to the computer is not a smooth process, and has drained my battery; and 4. The portable key is very problematic, and on two occasions it has taken me 30-45 minutes to gain entry into my vehicle!

Comfortable car

What I don't like.

Engine is under powered, it will not hold cruise control speed setting. It is even worse with air conditioning running. ISG (Idle,Stop,Go) makes the car surge too much when it starts. Hate having to press ISG button every time I drive to shut it off. I have to fight the Driver Assist continuously because it rides to one side of the lane.

Recurring stalling. Loss of power as speed drops.

Fortunately I have learned to recognize the event immediately and start looking for a place to pull out of traffic.

Too Many Gadgets

The Kona has too many features. I just wanted a car, not all the bells and whistles. I particularly dislike the tabs to change the automatic transmission's gear, since I hit them accidentally fairly often. I also dislike the knob gearshift. The Kona also seems to lack the pep my 2009 Sonata had. However, I mainly drive it around my village, so it gets only limited use. I also do not like the chasm between the hood and the windshield, a trap for snow and slush. More storage would be nice, perhaps a storage area under the passenger seat.
