Perfect little truck for urban living

As a Wyoming guy, I've had many trucks over the years. I live in the city now, though, so I don't need something to pull a horse trailer. I do need something to run to the compost station, dump, and pick up large items from the hardware store from time to time, though. The Santa Cruz is absolutely PERFECT for what I need it to do! It pulls my small camper when I go up into the mountains, gets 27ish MPG driving around town, and has a small bed for the times I need one.

Small truck above average, but warranty is useless

I have no issues with the actually small truck. I have a HUGE issue with the warranty. It is not worth the paper it is printed on. I had an issue with a plastic protective cover on the tailgate that fell off. I told the service department. I was told it would not be covered since the original one was not there. IT FELL OFF! I wrote to Hyundai (three times). They told me I had to work with the dealership. The dealership gave me the same answer. I will never buy a Hyundai again.

Needs lobotomized

First, I pretty much hate the driver-vehicle interface. Second, the door-locking logic is INSANE. Somebody parks the car in your home garage. You go out to retrieve something (no key in pocket; why would you need it?) and approaching the Santa Cruz, all the doors lock. Obscenity. Minor note, if you're making a left turn in a 2 lane left turn situation and you have the turn signal on, the car tells you with a startling beep, "You better not change lanes." Other than the above, it's a really fine vehicle. It's got pep. The (short) cargo bed has all kinds of options for securing a load. The locking cover is so much appreciated. Seats and positioning are very good.

Not what I thought it would be. I have had many Hyundais from the same dealership. For the price I think it should have passenger power seats, side mirror defrost and more comfortable on a trip. The tonneau cover is a disappointing. Difficult to clean the bed and difficult to load. Have and will continue to recommend Hyundai. But, not Santa Cruz.

My only complaints are it didn’t come with a tow hitch. The dealer had none on the lot. My second is the back seat has no room for an adult to sit comfortably.

Sweet Ride

This is the most worry free vehicle that I have ever owned. Gets better than advertised mileage, and with the turbo can get up and go when needed. After two years, still learning all the bells and whistles, but I will get it. When lease is up, another Hyundai is in my future.
