"Thinking person's Honda" Better warranty/pricing, comparable quality

I have recommended Hyundai cars for years. I had my first Santa FE in about 2007. I have also bought Hondas but I believe that the Hyundai is a much better value. Before purchasing this Santa Fe I looked at Pilot and a CRV. The Pilot was too big and very expensive, the CRV was still more expensive, the Honda dealership wasn't budging too much on pricing and the engine was "anemic", not too much power. The CRV was also smaller. Again, Honda makes a very good, reliable car but, in my opinion, Hyundai Santa Fe is the 'value play' .

Amazing on long trips and good daily

Have been using it for 2 years now, from the 24k miles, around 12k have been 2 day trips, and is amazing for this purpose . Enough space, good gas mileage.

Like my Santa Fe, worried about the engine durability

I own this Santa Fe because my previous one caught fire and burned up while traveling. We bought the only Santa Fe the dealer because it would hold our stuff. My son had the engine in his Tucson go out, if was fully replaced but it took the dealer three weeks to diagnose and another two weeks to fix. They gave him a loaner car for the final two weeks, but that is a long time without a vehicle. Had a friend who had a Hyundai that started burning a lot of oil, so he sold it off. I travel cross country in my Santa Fe and sometimes it gives me pause.
