Great features, fun to drive, sounds like it's falling apart

I was looking for a commuter vehicle that was fun to drive and full of the tech I like while being heavy on safety features, and this checked all the right boxes. The exterior has a bit of a funky, retro design, which grew on me more and more, and the interior actually looks quite refined compared to other comparable vehicles. The Limited version I opted for had an upgraded sound system and more cameras for a 360 degree view, and it included other comfort features such as ventilated front seats. I love driving this thing and love the look and feel of it. However, per the dealership, Hyundai is ABUNDANTLY AWARE of a manufacturing defect specific to all Ioniq 5's, regardless the model year, that creates rattling noises primarily from the tailgate/hatch. I've taken my vehicle in twice for fixes, which were performed, but the car still sounds like it's going to fall apart whenever I hit a minor bump in the road. This is the only complaint I have about this vehicle, but Hyundai either doesn't care about this or doesn't know how to improve the quality of the build on the production line.

Weird warning alerts

This otherwise nice car flashes warning alerts, “Consider taking a break,” after driving for as little as two miles, “Keep your eyes on the road,” for no apparent reason. Both alerts are so annoying that I would not have bought the car if I had known about them.

gorilla arms needed

Nice roomy and quiet. BUT all necessary controls are beyond reach and not visible at a glance. Fan, temp,vent selection it's a dangerous reach. AND WHY DOES RADIO WITH SONG TITLE ARTISTS USE UP WHOLE SCREEN, USE NORNAL SIZE. VERY upset no storage compartment for charger adapters, they are loose.

Well thought out

This car is fun to drive. It is quiet and responsive. It is surprisingly large inside, especially the back seat. The controls are pretty intuitive but reading the manual is a must. I have one complaint. The connection between a charger and the car can cause trouble. I think Hyundai should provide adaptors with iron clad performance.

Review

We love the car. It has some few flaws though. Most alarming is the behavior of the lane assist feature. It is unusable.it takes too much control and then insists through its messages that the driver is not in control -- when he very much is.more generally, the car squawks too much. The lower instrument panel is illegible when the sun shines on it or in any bright light. The back end is always dirty. I drove on ice today and did not like the performance of the car on slick surfaces as compared with our last car, a Subaru Crosstrek. This could become a major issue, but I won't draw judgments yet on the basis of a single drive.

Best Electric SUV In Its Class

This car is a perfect combination of comfort, performance, and a balanced interior that is clean, but not austere. The suspension gives the vehicle, a beautifully smooth ride and the electric motors, though not Uber powered like Tesla‘s, provide plenty of pep. In short, this is one of the best cars I’ve ever driven and I’ve driven most of the electric vehicles in its class.
