Not for me

I drive a lot and having a fully electric vehicle where the battery drains quickly after a year isn’t ideal. You can’t road trip with this vehicle, most charging stations aren’t convenient and typically take far to long to charge. The best stations are typically the Tesla Supercharger locations and the plug is on the wrong side to align with all charging stations. I could go on and on but do they really care? Do you really care?

Positive and negative experiences

I am currently nearing the end of a 2-year lease. My experience has been both positive and negative. Unfortunately, the negative has left a stronger impression because the mechanical issues caused me worry about the reliability of the car while driving. First, the main traction battery failed after just a few months and I had to wait 2 months before it was replaced. Second, after it was replaced, I had battery coolant pump failures, which required me to take the car in three times and have two pump replacements. Third, the 12 volt battery failed, and I had to have the car towed to the dealer. Fortunately, everything was covered under warranty and the dealer provided free loaner vehicles. All this being said, I do love driving the car and consider it well-designed and comfortable. I think Hyundai needs to focus on improving the reliability of the high and low voltage batteries and related components.

No longer a diehard Hyundai fan

My 2025 Ioniq 5 with only 5100 miles on it received error code P1AA700. Last year, Hyundai issued TSB 25-EV-002H for the issue - it means total battery replacement. My car is not trapped at the dealer - I've been told the wait is 30-90 days, and I have no ETA. Hyundai knows how many cars are impacted but has not built enough batteries to take are of their customers. I have a case number with Hyundai where I'm supposed to get escalated delivery and it's done nothing. The person I'm talking to seems bothered by having to help. This is my second Ioniq5 (and I also own a CPO Kona) and both will be my last.

Overall good, but!

Car itself is very good. Software updates say they are coming but very infrequently and then you never know what it does. Looming ICCU issues are always on my mind. It’s a good car that could be much better with software updates. Service at dealers is horrendous. Dealers are not trustworthy or knowledgeable about the cars. For those reason this car gets downgraded.

Overall good. Needs improvement.

Good: Solid feeling vehicle. Very quiet Lane centering works pretty well. Could be made better. Can take hands off wheel as long as your eyes are on the road. It would be nice if it did not complain when I laugh or sing. Tesla requires constant pressure on the wheel which is very annoying. I would like these: One pedal drive mode should be a switch that stays on (or off). Like the 2018-2024 Leaf. One pedal regen below 30 mph should be stronger. Lane centering should be a switch that stays on (or off). Cruise controls: Engaging and dis-engaging is non-intuitive. Instead of a toggle, it should be on or off like other car makes. Occasionally when I want to disengage and dont realize its already off, I turn it on causing a potentially unsafe condition. Should resume by pressing the Up button, like other car makes. Pressing up or down should take less time to change 5 mph at one jump. Media control on steering wheel: Pressing up SHOULD go forward, NOT back. Pressing down SHOULD go backwards, NOT forward. I have to think about this every time I use it. Climate controls: Prefer physical buttons to fan speed, mode, recirc and temperature. Safer while driving and much more positive feel. Get rid of the touch or capacitive interface. The lights under the controls are not bright enough to see well in strong sunlight days. A rotary knob for fan speed, mode, and temperature would solve this and the above issue. I think the Kia is this way. Locking and unlocking using the door handle from outside. Again a button is better. Get rid of the touch or capacitive area in place of a depressable button. Be able to lock the vehicle from the rear hatch - add a button for this. Eliminate Start/Stop button to start the vehicle. Use foot on the brake like Tesla.

I wish...

This car is missing at least 2 features that were in both of my Chevy Bolts and one Chevy Bolt EUV: you can't keep it in iPedal and when driving at night you have to activate the auto brights each time. Both were standard on the Chevy. And matte paint is just stupid! I do love the EV range, the very adjustable driver seat and the flat dash (I am short).

Love car with multiple repairs

Love the car's driving and ease of use. Unhappy with plastic air flow flaps in front of car that easily bent and stopped working. 12v died in first 12 months and within a month of that large battery had error message and had to get replaced which took 2.5 weeks.

Everything Makes Sense

i have had my Hyundai All Electric IONIQ 5 SUV for almost two years (it’s a 2025). What I find most interesting is that everything is where it belongs and it lacks for nothing. So far I have not said, “I wish…”. The car is very comfortable, VERY quiet, has great pick up speed, a huge glass top window, and service has been very good. My car is like many cars, silver in color, but the wheels are unique as are the car handles which are totally recessed in the door and open only when you come near the car. It gets over 400 miles on one charge and I love the interior ambient lighting. It’s a great car!
