Value, reliability, and good performance with room for improvement

The 2023 Sonata provides very good value at a reasonable price - especially in today's market. Highway driving is actually fun, with the Sonata engine generating above-average power without complaint. You'll be hitting 100 before you know it. Around town the Sonata works a little harder, tending to shift rather late from first to second a bit noisy. Burst speed is better in the higher gears, where the Sonata runs like a champ. The design improves with every model year, but the comfort doesn't. My 2023 Sonata is only marginally more comfortable than my former 2001 Sonata - specifically the seats. There's plenty of leg room - I'm 6'2" - and width, but the seats are harder than they should be. The shallow tires don't help the ride if you're on a bumpy street. This bow to the popular trend is a mistake, in my opinion. If you like your car to assist you during traffic, the Sonata has features like lane keeping and proximity sensors. While I find the latter useful, I turned off lane keeping as it is not practical - and even detrimental - in heavy traffic when you need to take evasive action. Also, when backing the Sonata will sometimes automatically and abruptly engage the brake whether or not something is coming toward it. This is a "smart" feature I could do without. All that said, I still believe the Sonata is absolutely worth the money. It's super reliable and fairly maintenance-free. Modern, sporty design with excellent gas mileage (I average about 30 in town and 35 highway). Overall, a great bargain compared to similar cars in the same class. That's why this is my third Sonata in the last 25 years.

Saved my wife and me life on Oklahoma Turnpike

The safety features on my 2023 Sonata kept my wife and myself safe in a driving rainstorm on the Oklahoma Turnpike. I was the left lane with the car’s cruise on in heavy traffic in both lanes when we entered a driving rainstorm. My Sonata cruise control keep the car a safe distance from traffic in front of us where I was unable to change lanes due to the Sonata blind lane safety features and heavy truck traffic

Love a couple things. REALLY don't like others.

I love the mileage. I like the ride better than my previous Kia Optima. I really don't like the chronic engine oddities and malfunctions, the added "safety" features that I have to manually disconnect every. single. time. I drive my car, and the paint job is horrible. Worst paint job I've ever had! And there are no touch up pens available for purchase 3 years after my car was manufactured. The paint chips at every little bump. It's really ridiculous and such a shame since I am very careful about the appearance of my vehicle inside and out. Inexcusable, really. At just shy of 3 years of ownership (of a brand new car), I have several chips on the front and back. When the first one happened within 6 months of me owning the car, I asked the general manager about it. His flippantly suggested I get Ziebart. IDK what happened at the painting stage of manufacturing my car, but the paint step was done poorly or used very poor materials. Besides the chronic engine surging and sputtering and the dealer's inability to diagnose and fix it (they have tried, they really have but it doesn't show up in the electronic record and it will cost me a diagnostic service to really find out and it's a total rip off to have to pay to have something diagnosed when it's under its full warranty! ). I will never, ever buy a Hyuandai again. And let's not even discuss the big price tag of my insurance premiums because of the high theft of these vehicles.

Great car with a few things I’d change

Overall I loved my Sonata. A couple of things I’d change is that I would add a sunglasses compartment—no place to put those! And I would have liked a spot to store small items that I can easily reach. Last thing is the infotainment center. It was way too slow to connect to Apple play even tho I was direct connecting with a cord. And I wish it remembered how I liked my split screen set up so I didn’t have to set it up each time.

2023 Sonata

Runs good. To much electronics. Seat belts do not retract properly. Emergency brake comes on any time you shut off the engine. Pushbutton shifter isn’t the best when trying to hurry. Elect locks are a pain in the back seat.

Reliable, Comfortable Ride

My wife and I love this car. We chose it because we’ve owned multiple Hyundai vehicles over the years, and loved all of them. This one we loved the look and color, and after 2 years, still love the ride. It’s taken us on multiple road trips and lots of commutes to work, and is still fun to drive.
