Pretty Good Car for the Money

The Sonata is a good car. In a world were crossovers and SUVs have all but taken over the affordable car market, Hyundai's resistance to this change by keeping an automotive staple--the mid-sized sedan--is a welcome addition to the market. The Sonata's size, comfort, and features make it ideal for a 4-5 person family, or even a single person or couple with a lot to transport without needing to upgrade to an unruly, unsafe, and gas guzzling SUV. It features ample trunk space, a well-performing engine, fuel efficiency (especially once broken in), and style without breaking the bank. Having said all that though, the car isn't perfect. The drive-by-wire system can take a while to get used to. Not so much the switching of gears, but the fact that the steering wheel isn't connected to the wheels of the car. This makes the Sonata's steering unnaturally light. It is slightly heavier in Sport mode, but for those of us who grew up with power steering, it still feels a little off. More resistance would be appreciated. Further, the driver's aides seem to be a touch too sensitive. A tad too worrisome. That's not to say that you can't override them if you want, but it can feel odd to have the car turn itself before you feel the car should be steered. I've also noticed that sometimes the car lurches when cold. I don't know if this is the automatic transmission receiving conflicting signals from the gas pedal, but it is worrying when it happens, and the only way to prevent it seems to be hard acceleration, which is another I don't like about it. It takes quite a hard press of the gas to actually get it moving. My old car, a BMW 328i, needed very little input from the gas to get going, even in Eco Pro mode. And speaking of modes, the car's Sport mode seems to hang onto gears for too long when accelerating. I realize the Sonata isn't a performance vehicle, some more fine tuning of how the engine performs would be appreciated. I know it seems like I have more negative than positive things to say about Sonata, but that's only because I'm coming from a performance vehicle to a more everyday driver. Overall, I like the Sonata and would recommend it. But there is definitely room for improvement.

Rides really nice. Irritating motor surging when at a cruise speed. It's like it can't decide to just maintain. Speeds up and then slows down and the gas pedal doesn't move.

Great commuter vehicle

I needed a vehicle to drive back and forth to work and take my kids back and forth to practices and school events. This car is all wheel drive which I appreciate in the unpredictable Colorado weather. Comfortable ride, secure handling, and enough room in the back seat and trunk for my needs.

Looks great but performance issues

Great looking and comfortable interior. Could use parking sensors and the gears don't shift when accelerating sometimes or slowing down. Using Android Auto and then trying to switch out of it to use the car apps is hard to figure out .....

Best car on the road

As far as drivability is concerned, this car is the best. I have not enjoyed driving a car as much as I have this 2024 Sonata. It is very comfortable and all the special features work as described. No issue with anything so far. Great gas mileage. So far getting about 27 in city and 39 on highway. I’ll just say what everyone tells me…”nice car!”

Not happy at all.

Poor design for engine splash shield. too low to ground and Mine ripped off from wind on interstate as clips holding it on are very weak. Dealer blamed me for hitting something which I did not. Want $600 to repair. Also a constant wind whistling noise coming thru vents.

terrible service by dealer and refuse to back your design flaw.

Terrible design. The wind deflector and the engine splash shield are so low that whenever you even go over a speed bump the shield and reflector scrape the roadway. It is just held on with some cheap clips and my clips gave way while I was on the interstate and the splash shield and reflector were ground up to nothing by the roadway before I could go 3 miles to the nearest dealership. They blamed me saying I had to have hit something for the clips to break. I hit nothing. There was nothing in the roadway. They wanted almost $600.00 to replace it. I refused. I am done buying Hyundai vehicles. This is the worst service I ever had. And to blame me for your poor design was the last straw.

Smooth ride

I love the comfortable ride and features on the dashboard. I love CV the adjustable seats and the sunroof features. The mileage I get is fantastic on the highway and in town. The Kane assist options have been really helpful.

Great car, but Bluelink issues.

Car is great and love it, but the Bluelink connection went out a few weeks after purchase. Bluelink app is very nice when it’s working. Car has a ton of features and it’s easier to maintain with alerts from Bluelink.

Average vehicle at best.

Average is stretching it. Not enough power. Shifting between gears is not smooth. Sensor is always blocked by snow or debris. Besides the looks nothing else is worthy the price. I owned few Hyundai vehicles before and this one is by far the worst.

Nice

Great ride. Comfortable. Smooth and fairly quiet. Only one tiny issue would be the transmission at times seems to search for the right gear when going from a rolling acceleration. Outside of that I love the ride.

Great vehicle & well worth the mobey

Love my Sonata! It’s the 4th one I have bought. Rides like a dream & very good on gas mileage. Love the bigger screen for backing up & the icons such as the map. Very roomy & comfortable; large trunk for storage. You can’t beat the warranty, too. Like the new stylish look. No complaints.

Really well built

I get a lot of compliments on my new Sonata. The 2024 is a nice ride. It is comfortable and has all the features I wanted. The adaptive cruise control is awesome. All the driver safety features are more than I expected. The car is a pleasure to drive and 191 HP performs very well on the road. Terrific value for what you get.
