Great EV, But a Major Reliability Scare on a Brand-New Car
I absolutely love the way my 2025 Ioniq 5 drives. The design, interior comfort, tech, and everyday efficiency are outstanding and exactly what I wanted in an EV.
Unfortunately, at under 1,500 miles the car displayed a Check Electric Vehicle System warning and the dealer confirmed a failed ICCU, a problem that is WELL known to Hyundai. This isn’t an old car: it was built in April 2025 at the Georgia Metaplant, so it’s disappointing that a brand-new model year is still shipping with the defective component.
The good news is that the dealer arranged warranty coverage and an ICCU replacement, and Hyundai’s EV powertrain warranty is solid. But the experience shook my confidence: I don’t expect a critical power-train part to fail so soon into the life of a vehicle.
Hyundai, I love this car and hope the updated ICCU truly resolves the issue and that you can figure out this issue on new builds so other owners don’t have to go through the same ordeal.
