A great car, with a few very annoying flaws
I love almost every thing about the car. It accelerates well and smoothly. It handles reasonably well for such a heavy car. It's very comfortable. The technology is great.
A few things that are easily fixed with a software update *really* need to be fixed, though:
1) I'm frustrated by having to hit the difficult small depression in the door handle to lock my car. I frequently find it hasn't been locked. The car really needs an update to enable "walk away locking", or at a minimum the ability to press the lock button after opening the door and have it actually work.
2) Having to click a button every time I start the car and every time I put it into reverse in order to enable the i-Pedal (1-pedal) mode is incredibly annoying, and has led to a few cases where I was expecting deceleration that didn't happen and got unsafely close to the car or intersection ahead before noticing. I.e. a safety issue.
3) The start up sequence is stupidly long. The fact that it won't even start *playing the radio* until the confirm button is pressed, combined with the sometimes large delay before the Confirm button *even appears* has caused me to start driving before it finishes, then interact with the screen to dismiss it before the 10 seconds are up. In order words, it is encouraging a safety problem that goes against the stated purpose of the screen. The fact that Android Auto/Navigation is not available during the splash screen and that it is slow to connect means I end up messing with the *that* screen while driving too.
Three improvements to the start up sequence are needed: 1) Start up time needs to be faster and more predictable. 2) Start the last radio setting and allow Android Auto connection immediately. 3) Allow more time where the car will start *without* the splash screen after being turned off. Preferably: only ask for this confirmation *once per day* when detecting the same key is being used, or at least make all functions available immediately.
One side note: I received a "check engine" light around 1000 miles, and the Hyundai dealer service said the OBD code for it was not in their manuals, nor did Hyundai's service helpline know what it meant. That's frustrating.
One final note: the auto-unlock feature is too touchy, and should be tweaked to account for accidental activations better. I just tried to put on a car cover, and the car locked and unlocked 5 times during the process, extending the mirrors, in spite of my relocking it manually. Maybe require manual unlock for a while if it's manually locked?
