Most fun car I’ve ever owned.

First, a road trip to Scottsdale (AZ) from Chicagoland, fighting daily construction on 294, weekends in Wisconsin or Michigan. It’s always fun. Especially after learning where & how to recharge the vehicle at minimal cost and time.

eye catching SUV

This all wheel drive electric SUV is a fun car to drive. It has plenty of torque and pickup as well as reasonable battery mileage. He is surprisingly roomy inside and when the back, reclining seats are down I can fit my bicycle in without removing the front wheel. The matt gray finish and the aluminum multifaceted, black, wheels are eye catching. The interior is beautiful with its soft leather like seats, and ambient lighting. The two large screens are easy to negotiate and read and there are both touch screen and physical knobs to adjust settings. It has a lot of luxury features e.g. heated seating and steering as well as airconditioned seats. It is equipped with a holgraphic display and driver assisted steering and drive. The one down side is that it does not have a rear wiper and this is a design mistake.

2023 Ioniq 5 Review

Absolutely love this vehicle. While there are some things I would comment on to improve, they've mostly been taken care of with the 2024 and 2025 model years. The only persistent annoyance I have is the lack of native wireless Android Auto integration. Without that, the stock navigation, while generally good, shows its age with only two updates a year.

My 2023 Ioniq 5 SEL

Love my I-5!!! It’s fast and very easy to maneuver thru traffic, etc. only downside had been all the recalls on its electronic functions.

Decent vehicle, poor service, major issues still unresolved

Issues: - Software updates quickly fell behind newer models (no manual preconditioning, for example) - High subscription fees for map updates and remote services (BlueLink) after first three years. - Vehicle is unable to level 2 charge at advertised rate for more than a few minutes - Local dealer and Hyundai corporate never responded to emails trying to schedule appointment to fix: above charging issue, remote park assist issue causing car to turn off while using feature, non-functional 110V V2L plug under rear seat, and other misc issues. - ICCU failure seems imminent -- lack of explanation of issue and no reliable fix from Hyundai. - Free NACS adapter was promised in early spring 2025, I never received communication to get it and ~5 calls to Hyundai support have been fruitless.

Excellent EV

The Ioniq 5 has been a very reliable car for me. I have not had any problems with the car that required me to take it to the dealer or a repair shop to get it repaired in the two years that I have owned it. I did have a few recalls that needed to be taken care of. But that is all. I love to drive the car, it has a very comfortable ride and the drivers seat is very comfortable and can be adjusted to my personal needs easily. It has remarkable acceleration and the regenerative braking is adjustable so you can choose the level that is appropriate and safe for the driving conditions. I use the highest level of regenerative braking most of the time in warm weather and I really do not have to use the brake pedal except to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The charging system is capable of accepting the highest capacity chargers available today which makes charging at commercial chargers very quick. The cargo carrying capacity is plenty big for my needs. I live in a location that has both very hot conditions and very cold (0 deg. Fahrenheit or below) and the car does well in both situations. It is kept in a garage when not in use so that helps quite a bit. The climate control system keeps the car comfortable in all situations that we encounter in our area. The things that I wish were better about the car: It REALLY NEEDS a rear window wiper. The turning radius is different than any other vehicle I have ever driven. When backing up it seems like the turning radius is quite wide. When driving forward I seem to have trouble hitting the center of parking spaces. It seems to turn short (sooner) than other vehicles and when I try to compensate I wind up on the far side of the parking space. My wife feels like the passenger seat is very hard but others don't seem to feel that way. The visibility around the steering wheel of the instrument panel and the infotainment center is not the best. I have to move my head around to see various things on the displays. Other cars I have owned do a much better job with this (e.g. Honda CR-V).
