High Price Poor Quality/Reliability

I have owned the car for two years and have driven only 6000 miles. Last month the horn mechanism failed completely and had to be replaced. This month the main battery that runs the electric system failed. It is on order from Korea. No ETA yet, and Hyundai has had my car for over two weeks.

Great car with one big flaw

I like a lot about the Ioniq 5, especially the V2L function. But I've experienced a number of nagging issues that make it hard to love it completely: the rattling tailgate, tire shake at highway speeds, rattling door panels with bass on the speakers, and the biggest one - the ICCU failure. For a $50k car, the build quality should be better. But the ICCU failure and the months-long wait for repair parts for it is unacceptable for any car. Even after it's repaired, I'm hesitant to use the car in certain remote situations since the ICCU failure happened with so little warning. I don't want to be stranded. Before the ICCU issues, I talked 8 people into buying Ioniq 5s. After the ICCU issues, I no longer recommend the Ioniq 5.

Great vehicle. Poor infrastructure.

I love driving this car, however, I can't stand public charging in California. I assume if California public EV charging isn't good, that everywhere else, it is far worse. The vehicle is stylish, comfortable, fast, and reliable. I would keep it if it weren't for public charging.

Great EV. Better than Tesla. Should have more features for the price.

Overall great ride. Comfortable and good handling. Some features like rear window windshield wiper, rear seat heat / cold vents, wireless apple Car play, wireless charging, etc. should be standard. Also should have forward sensors for parking and 360 degree cameras for viewing surrounding area during driving and parking. Price should come down or features should improve in next version.

mixed opinion on the IONIQ 5 SE

I like the electric car experience overall however the SE version has some issues. The biggest problem with this year was that the car has no rear wiper (this is a huge safety issue and the new 2025 model has one)

Great car. Except when it’s not.

I loved my car. Best I’ve ever owned. And then the ICCU unit failed at 12,000 miles. My car was in the service center for over 6 weeks. It shook my confidence in its reliability and makes me hesitant to take it on long road trips.

Sets bar for EVs

Solid EV that is an everyday car and also suitable for roadtrips, at least in CA where fast chargers are plentiful. Software logic on door lock and 12V battery and onboard charger could use some improvement.

Great vehicle marred by subpar service & worries about ICCU failures

A lot of positive features. Nice exterior design, comfortable, fast, efficient, roomy interior. Too many ICCU recalls without solving the problem. Software fixes for hardware problems. Dealer experience has been mixed.

A qualified wonderful duccesd

I bought the Ionic 5 as a senior driver in part for its safety and driver assistance features. It does not disappoint and I believe I am a much safer driver as a result. Beyond that the Ionic 5 is a joy to drive. It is really fun, quiet, and so much easier to drive. This is easily a five star experience. On the negative side, there have been a number of recalls, mostly dealing with software updates. Those were handled quite easily and quickly. Most updates were to solve potential problems. One update involved problems with intermittent charging on 220V that I did experience. So, still holding at five star. More recently, I could not charge the car and a charging unit needed to be replaced. The part is on back order, and my Hyundai dealer has had the car for over a month awaiting the part. I do note that New Ionic 5 vehicles continue to arrive at dealerships while I await my part. I’m glad that Hyundai has provided a loaner car, but that doesn’t change my Ionic 5 opinion. I love the car, but it’s heading to a lower rating the longer this takes.

Overall, everything I expected and more

On the whole, this car has been excellent. It lived up to my expectations for charging speeds, range on long drives, and comfort. The performance in terms of pickup speed or acceleration, and torque exceeded my expectations. While I have given the vehicle the highest star rating, there are some areas that need improvement: back windshield wiper(!); turning radius; EASIER BATTERY PRECONDITIONING; better tires (Michelin cross-climates) and windshield wipers; USB-C ports; better side vision on the headlights. Wouldn’t complain about a front camera either

Nice Idea But No

I was excited to get an electric car that was not a Tesla. I have been a loyal Hyundai driver for 15 years and always thought their cars were good quality. Until this one. A full charge can get you a couple hours outside of Charlotte, precisely to where there are limited, at best, charging stations, so I could never really leave my city with this vehicle. I could deal with all of that until the vehicle STOPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. Maintaining this vehicle is incredibly inconvenient for all parties - myself and the tow truck driver. When it died A SECOND TIME and it took 3 hours to get it on a flatbed, I knew I was done. Other thoughtful features NOT available in this expensive car: - no rear windsheild wiper. WHY THO??? - trunk opens so low that everyone hits their head on it. - the car door made a distracting sticking sound since the day I bought it brand new. I knew going into this that an electric car would be a bit more work, but this car was the worst purchasing decision I've ever made and the lack of any actual resolution to my problems (like the car not working) was staggering. That i had to show my car died 4 times before any action is taken is crazy. I am disappointed by Hyundai's response especially after they had me go through weeks of background just to tell me they can't do anything about my BRAND NEW NON-FUNCTIONING CAR. I tell everyone I can how much I hate this car.
