One of the best with some key improvements needed
Hyundai has created a wonderful EV that I believe will be an iconic EV of its time. Design, comfort and performance are wonderful. My family and friends constantly compliment and really enjoy my Ioniq 5. Safety and drive assist tech is wonderful. I really enjoy the regen paddles and how Hyundai handles those features. Hyundai used top tech for its battery leading to charging speed being close to unmatched in this price segment to this day. I also love the size and capability, the interior packaging is impressive and feels like a larger car inside than it looks.
However, Hyundai needs serious software improvements. Their app is seriously behind other competitors (no outside of app shortcuts, Siri voice control or widgets and generally outdated design). The infotainment lacks key EV features like a pre-conditioning button, charge level control for routing and a useful Home Screen. I understand these have been addressed in future models but since this is software I don’t understand why these couldn’t be addressed in this model with an update. They delivered very minor updates to the infotainment over the 2 years I have owned it which is disappointing considering most of my complaints are software related (and very publicly aware online) and could have been fixed and this vehicle was advertised with OTA being a key feature. I really love my Ioniq 5 but I would love it even more with better software and a better app. Final minor complaint, allow ventilated seats on not the top trim. I would have gotten that option but it’s relegated to the top trims and that’s annoying considering I don’t need a glass roof, auto parking, or a rear view mirror camera but ventilated seats would improve my comfort a lot.
