Love this car!

It's a pleasure to drive this well designed and thought out car! Only negative is the iphone charger pad heats up from direct sunlight and your phone can overheat. Also I wish the charging status lights at the charging port could be dimmed or options.

Love the Ionic After Bumpy Start

I’ve had the Ionic 5 for a little over a year, and it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Smooth riding, plenty of nearly instant power, and in my opinion, great looking. I would have rated it five stars if not for a negative experience trying to get help dealing with a loud squeaking sound from the rear hatch door from the dealership where I purchased it. I was inexplicably told that the car was too new to qualify for replacement of the parts needed to fix the problem. The car has a warranty that covers some things when it is only older than a certain age? Left in the lurch with only my own devices, I went to the Hyundai owners forum and found that the squeaking sound has been a problem for several years. Several forum members also ran into problems getting the problem fixed at dealerships, and tried a number of home-grown solutions. A few of the solutions were described in the forum, I tried several myself, and finally found one that actually fixed the problem. This experience was disappointing, but since I figured out a way to make my driving experience quiet again — without any help from Hyundai the company and the dealership that sold me the vehicle — I have been thoroughly enjoying my climate-friendly Ionic 5.

one major mistake

The vehicle rides beautifully and is well appointed. But I cannot believe that this specific design Floor got through the designers into production. When you are driving, you cannot even begin to see the buttons that control the air conditioning and the heater and the temperature, etc. They are LCD lights with touch controls and if it’s the least bit daytime with shining they disappear. I would give anything to be able to remedy this situation and I understand the newer ones, minus a 2025, will have actual buttons for these controls. How can I correct mine at this time?

Great car, terrible battery design

Overall, the car is great. It’s comfortable, drives nicely, feels solid and has nice features. There is a slight issue with a whistle on the seal of the driver door and the turning radius is terrible. The major issue is that the 12V battery has dies 3 times in 6 months and the service center has not been able to find an issue. The closest they’ve gotten is to suggest the passive entry feature drains the battery constantly. This is not acceptable for a $55K Limited trim car. This feature is a built-in feature of the official app, so it is not reasonable for it to drain the battery, rendering the car useless every 2 months.

The Ioniq 5 XRT provide additional capability to the already outstanding Ioniq 5. The added ground clearance, ruggedized body trim, selectable terrain modes and AWD HTRAC makes venturing through snow filled streets, loose/uneven patches and unpaved gravel roads effortless!

Needs better quality assurance

Loud rear hatch rattle. Various cabin rattles. Main high voltage battery failed with less than 24k miles. Repair cost totaled over $40k, thankfully covered under warranty.

Review of cutting edge electric vehicle

I like everything about the vehicle but its self-driving capabilities. If they worked well, I would be delighted, but they do not. When I am looking ahead with the lane assist on the car screams at me to look ahead which makes that function useless for me. Also I get demands that I put my hands on the wheel when they are on the wheel but this one is only occasional.

Great unreliable car; terrible dealer and company

My ICCU failed in December 2025. A two week fix. My 12 volt failed in April 2026. Flatbedded to the dealer as required by Hyundai. Dealerr said it would not look at it for 2 to 3 weeks. I bought a battery at Costco, replaced it in 10 minutes, and Hyundai refused to reimburse me the $200 for the battery.
