I love it BUT……

I love everything about my Ionic 5 except two things and they are almost inexcusable on the part of the designers: 1. The poor viewability of the climate control panel is UNSAFE! The combination of a highly reflective vertically convex lense on top of a display with inadequate brightness makes it impossible to see both the displayed values or the touch button labels under most sunny day conditions. The convex shape means that there is almost always a sun angle that will reflect into the driver’s eyes. Trying to make climate control adjustments under these conditions is distracting and takes the drivers eyes off the road while trying to locate the appropriate touch button. Additionally, the high-gloss low contrast finish on the mechanical buttons immediately above this panel are frequently unreadable in high sunlight conditions. This is just plainly poor ergonomic design and the use of a poor display technology with inadequate brightness and contrast. Shame on the Hyundai product designers that place more value on shiny surfaces than on driver viewability. 2. I wear glasses and the highway driving assistant eye sensors frequently start telling me to keep my eyes on the road due to what I presume to be reflections off of my glasses even when my eyes are clearly focussed on the road ahead. These warnings go away if I take off my glasses (which are also my sun glasses or turn off the automatic lane centering system. This is an unacceptable design ERROR! The fact that Hyundai has allowed these two deficiencies to propagate across multiple model years tells me that something is severely wrong within the Hyundai design world. These deficiencies are highly inconsistent with what is otherwise a superbly designed car that I really love. I will NOT BE RENEWING OR BUYING OUT MY LEASE after two years due to these two incredibly annoying and unsafe deficiencies.

Great car overall, but a few annoyances. I would have given it a 4.5

I love driving the car 98% of the time. It has been problem free though I have 3 complaints: 1) The drivers seat should have memory settings for 2 drivers....almost every car in this price range has that feature and its very annoying since my wife and i both drive it often. 2) Bigger complaint --- the warnings to "have a cup of coffee" or "take a break" often continue to come on even if I have both hands on the wheel and my eyes on the road. There is no way to disable this function and it is bothers me a great deal. Fortunately I don't drive long distances very often and if I needed to, I would get rid of the car rather than continue to listen to these warnings. 3) The remaining mileage calculation is always overestimating reality, by at least 10-20%.

My only complaint is the display for interior heating which is very difficult so see, especially when wearing sunglasses.

After problems with the 12v battery (dealer caused), I'm very happy

This is probably the best car I've driven (16 others over almost 60 years). The original dealer installed a lo-jack which was draining the 12v battery, so the car spend much of the first three months in the shop until my dealer figured it out. Hyundai National reimbursed me for a month's lease.

In Utah 2025 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD

This is one of my all-time favorite cars. I like the handling, the styling, seating comfort. Performance in the snow has been as good as, if not better than, my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

2025Ioniq 5 AWD SEL

The car is a pleasure to operate overall. However there is one big problem: ICCU/12V battery failure. My only two friends with 2025 Ioniq 5’s have had similar car-bricking experiences. Another friend will be acquiring a new car in January. I cannot confidently recommend the Ioniq 5 when ICCU failures happen as they have 3 out of 3 times. It’s a shame because the car is superb otherwise.

Best car I've ever owned.

This is the best car that I've ever owned. I absolutely love it. The acceleration, dearth of maintenance, wonderful driving experience, an inexpensive electrical fuel make it a win all the way around. In fact, I love this car so much that you should use me in a commercial.

Great Car but…..

Everything about my 2025 Ionic 5 is fantastic. Except for the fact that I can’t trust it. My car fell victim to the well documented ICCU design failure within three months and 2000 miles of ownership. And with Hyundai unable or unwilling to take a firm position on whether it is permanently fixed, how can I trust taking it out of town far away from repair facilities?

Great once breaking things got fixed

I love the car’s roomy interior, acceleration, display panels and tech features. Early on I had to bring the car in for an onsite software update; then later, had to have it loaded onto a tow truck because the brake module was malfunctioning. It took three weeks to get it replaced. The only other downside is the auto sensing wipers, they are erratic and I have to constantly manually adjust them to wipe more slowly or more quickly. Also, the Michelin tires that come with the new vehicle are flat to the sides of the wheel so I have scraped the wheel a few times when parking too close to the curb. Tires that bulge outward a bit would prevent that

Well designed EV

I came from a Model Y and I prefer the Ioniq 5. I like the overall exterior appearance. The interior is well designed with good finish and layout. Back seats have huge legroom. Cargo area is large and functional. In almost 2 years, no maintenance issues, no squeaks or rattles.

Ionic five is like driving a cloud. It’s a cream puff. Super comfortable. I love everything about it. I especially love the fact that it cost me under six dollars at my in-home charging station.

Great car, grat price, terrible sounds.

Great car, especially for the price we paid, however sounds it makes are plain terrible and extremely annoying. I realize they are required by law for electric cars, but somehow other makes of electric vehicles do not make them that loud or excessive as this car does.

Good buy, just not for me

Lots of bells-and-whistles, but battery life is poor, rides loose, and sensors are a tad much. Sometimes you get an alert our auto-pause and have no clue why or what for. Self-drive is also confusing to navigate settings.

Bought as an experiment

We bought this last year with the subsidies expiring. Hyundai also had some good deals going on at the time, and we decided it was a good time to give an EV a chance. And experiment, if you will, to see how livable they are. We don't have any plans to take it on a longer road trip, so the range has never been any kind of consideration at all. In fact, I think the range wars are the most idiotic thing in EVs. They make FAR more sense as a day-to-day, errand running vehicle. And for that purpose, this thing is perfect. We both look to it first when running around town - to the store, doctor, dentist, drop kids off, etc. It is just so convenient, and the way it drives is a lot of fun. We still haven't installed a "real" charger, and just use the cable that came with the car.

Nice car, nice ride, build quality issues.

Car is comfortable, fast and has good handling for a heavy car. Build quality isn’t great, as the rear hatch rattles and shakes on every bump and turn. Dealshuos don’t have a fix. I’m happy it’s a lease and I don’t own it. Infotainment is ok, can be a challenge between native apps and CarPlay.
