Ioniq 5 Unreliable and Poor Accountability

Multiple ICCU failures make this vehicle unreliable and not fit for driving (especially long distances where you can be stranded). Hyundai refused to accept proper responsibility, forcing an arbitrator to rule against them.

Well featured, fast, with a few little issues

I have the 2025 Limited trim. I enjoy the features like heated/cooled seats and the spacious interior. The white seats and trims do get dirty quickly, and I would like to see darker shades used. The vehicle is fast in a straight line, but is no sports car. They have tried to keep the weight down, which makes it feel not as well planted to the road. Also the body sheet metal is thin, and will dent very easily. Paint coat thickness is unusually small. Dash cam functionality could have easily been built-in. Like many, many others, I had my ICCU fail. The dealership repair experience was not stellar. They chose to not replace the 12V battery, which, as expected, failed in the next month or so, making me tow it again. For a price of almost 64K, one expects better build quality and dealership experience.

2nd Ioniq 5 and recommended others that bought them.

My 2nd Ioniq 5 - worked on mules at Motional in 2021 and bought one of the first 5 in the area. Overall a great car, and HMG offers reasonable trim levels: 2025 SEL a sweet spot, but USA could use a sunroof option - I didn't get Limited because I don't want panoramic. Front bumper overly complicated - small fender benders are common and too expensive to fix. Turning radius feels bigger than it should. Can we have OTA mirror tilt in Reverse update (really should be standard feature). ICCU still a worry. Have gotten 4 friends to buy one.

What's Promised Was Delivered

After nearly 20K miles, both local and long distance, I can honestly say the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited has been a joy to drive. It has excellent range and fast charging and is welcomed at most Tesla stations. Although Tesla is not my first choice nor the fastest up until recently it was the most ubiquitous.

Very cool car, changed my mind about Hyundai

This is a great car, it's beautiful, easy to drive, has a bunch of great features. I love the long range, after charging, it shows over 400 miles which means, for me, that I only have to charge every 2 weeks. I can go on a 4 hour trip without charging until I get to that city. I even took it up into the Smoky Mountains National Park and back to Asheville stopping in a couple of other places on one charge. The climate system is a little problem. The only knob is the radio volume knob which is directly above the touch controls of the climate, so inevitably, I turn the whole climate system off when I turn the volume up or down. It's a pain. And when I want to change the temperature in the vehicle I have to look down to see exactly where to press because it's a touch control, there's nothing to feel while I would like to keep my eyes on the road. That's my biggest pain point besides not enough chargers around. I also don't like that Tesla doesn't allow me to charge at some of there stations, that's annoying. Otherwise, I do love the car and would buy it (it's a lease) if the climate controls were different. It is unfortunately a deal breaker so I won't be buying it.

Hyundai 2025 Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 2025 is a fantastic EV. The only negative, and it is huge, is the problem with ICCU unit failure causing loss of power.. I had this problem with my 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 and had expected that the factory would have solved this issue by the time I got the 2025 model. Unfortunately, the same problem happened. I would not recommend this vehicle unless the issue is confirmed directly from Hyundai that the problem is permanently solved.

Awesome car with only a few frustrations

The Ioniq 5 has been so much fun to drive, is a great savings on fuel cost, and has fully sold me on the idea of EVs. There are a few frustrations. First, for a modern, high tech car, the key fob is just ridiculous. It should be small and sleek and home the physical key inside. Second, auto lock on walking away would be so convenient. Lacking that, the door handle button should be a physical button. The touch sensitive button is too finicky. Finally, Hyundai needs to fix the ICCU problems must be fixed on the platform.

Great all-around vehicle

On the whole, I really like the Ioniq 5. It's very comfortable inside, and surprisingly spacious; my tall father fits well in the backseat, which is a rarity for any vehicle. Everyone who's ridden in it has commented how nice it is. Three adults usually fit well in the backseat. Almost every button and indicator is where I'd intuitively expect it to be. I like the wireless phone charging pad on the center armrest console; it keeps the phone still while being close at hand. I haven't used the heat much, but you have to turn it up to over 80 degrees to really get heat, which sometimes ends up making things too warm after a while. I'd prefer to be able to set the temp to e.g. 77 and have it more slowly warm up. Minor issue. I like that more of the center console controls are buttons than what I saw of the 2024 model. But a lot of the climate control buttons are still touchpads, and they're hard to see in bright light. I wish they were all physical push-buttons. Same with the overhead lights; if I'm trying to turn one of them on at night, it's annoying to fumble around trying to find the touch-sensitive spot. The adaptive cruise control is pretty nice. I use it a lot on surface streets in addition to highways, and one thing I've found is that you can't really trust it to come to a sharp hard stop, like at a red light when another car is ahead of you. I guess because of the limits of how far ahead the system can look, it doesn't recognize stopped cars until you're uncomfortably close, and it'll still be going rather fast for how little space there is left to come to a complete stop. I've learned that you need to manually hit the brake or disable CC some time before this. Any time you're behind a car that's coming to a stop more slowly, however, it's perfectly fine. One bigger annoyance with the CC is that the camera watching your eyes sometimes registers false-positive look-aways. My theory is that it has to do with bright light hitting glasses, which I wear. More than a few times, it's chided me to look back at the road when I am already looking there. There's been plenty of times where it was correct that my gaze had drifted, but it's aggravating when you snap your eyes back and it's still tutting that you're looking elsewhere. This has never happened at night, hence the theory that it's light/reflections off glasses. This did get better after a software update earlier in the year, but it still happens on occasion. The inclusion of the camera is also somewhat creepy if I think about it. I'm guessing it's mandated by federal regulations around higher-capability CC systems like this, but I wish I didn't have a camera recording me all the time. The blindspot warnings are useful. Sometimes they ping overly-aggressively, like if I'm signalling and merging one lane to the right, and it detects a car two lanes to the right. But it's never outright wrong. I knew this was the case with basically any EV, but it's got great acceleration, even in Eco Mode. I try not to floor it because of power efficiency reasons, but it's nice to know it can. The mileage is very good for a not-tiny car. Since a somewhat recent software update, I've noticed that the "average" miles-remaining indicator is off. I understand that it shows best-case on top, worst-case on bottom, and then the most-likely estimate bigger than the other two in the middle. But the "average" estimator is now always right around the best-case, sometimes even a few miles above that; I've seen the top estimate be e.g. 350 miles, and then the "average" estimate be like 353. I assume this is some software bug, and it's not a big deal; the charge-remaining indicator seems to be accurate, and I haven't gone so far that I can't make it back home to charge. I wish the cargo net in the trunk stretched more, and/or that there were some higher-up attachments for it. It seems to only be useful for securing low-lying items; there are taller things I've wanted to prevent from moving around more, but the options with the included net and points don't make that possible. I don't love the angular look of the exterior, but I've gotten used to it. It's not Cybertruck or original Scion xB ugly. The frunk is uselessly small. I haven't had issues with the ICCU, but it is worrying that the car could just stop charging, or stop being able to accelerate, at any time.

Comfortable and easy to drive.

This is a comfortable EV that drives almost like a gas powered car, so the learning curve was short. I don’t like that I can’t control some of the warnings, alerts, and reminders - either through the app or the car. Also, the map isn’t all that accurate when locating a charging station. It’s mislead me multiple times.

Battery issues

I had the PCU replaced 4 mouths after I got the vehicle. 4 months later I had warning issue and it took a few dealerships visits to find the problem. They found a bad 12volt battery and replaced it. 8 months later I had a problem starting the car. Brought it in and again had a bad 12 volt battery which they replaced. A new PCU and 2-12 volt batteries in 16 months. I feel there is something wrong with the charging system, but am told everything is checking out ok

Over priced and over designed

The car has a lot of bells and whistles but is an average drive. Poor performance on uneven roads, too big, massive blind spots, melts under normal wear.

Great Car - When it works

When this car works, it's my favorite car that I've ever owned. It's quiet, comfortable, and efficient. Easily a 5/5 star car. However, it is also by far the least reliable car I've ever owned. Over the past 11 months, I've had it to the shop for many things - nonfunctional GPS, not working charger, ICCU failure, and now a complete battery failure. The ICCU failure took weeks to fix. My car is currently at a Hyundai dealer and I'll have it back in 4-12 weeks.
