My 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5 review August 2026

Nice all electric car. First time having an all electric. Acceleration is fast and smooth. Rear view mirror is different from what I am used to. The rear view mirror uses a camera on the back of the car so your view is totally not obstructed. Better vision for the most part. At night it blurs headlights from behind you so you are not getting blinded. I like having not to have to go to a gas station to fill up. Once you start using it, charging at home, you will enjoy the convenience.

love this car

I absolutely love this car. I only have two issues. First is that when I went on a long road trip, the a/c kept shutting off or would automatically switch to "driver only". and also, in the rear hatch, after I wash the car, there is a constant drip of water under one of the panels.

Perfect Car

This was our first electric car, so my wife and I were a bit nervous about all the new tech and features. Within a day or two, driving it felt normal, within a month or so I felt like I understood when and how to charge it (I had the default amperage set to "low" for a while and was charging slower than I needed to). The overall design of this specific car is all around great and we love it

This has been my favorite car so far. I love everything about it. It's fast. It's quiet. It's roomy. It's electric. And I got a really good deal on it.

Hyundai 2026 Ioniq 5 Limited AWD

The absolute BEST bang for your buck on a quality luxury all electric SUV. It was the BEST equipped electric SUV I looked at and with an extra offer from Hyundai Motor Finance...... a deal too good to be true. I love it!

2026 IONIQ 5 FWD Limited Review

I love the vehicle, especially many of the high-end features offered in the Limited trim line. There is one safety problem that occurred that you should be aware of though. The automated Forward Attention Warnings can give false positives. This occurred to me while driving on I-95 in DE. I was using the smart cruise control when the LFA and HDA systems automatically engaged. During this time the system started sending me "Eyes on the road" and "Hands on the wheel" warnings even though I had my hands firmly on the wheel and my eyes were on the road. I tried repositioning my hands and moving my head, but the warnings became more persistent until the system warned that the car would be shut down (while driving 65 mph on I-95!). I turned off the automated cruise control and this disabled the warnings, but this is clearly a problem you should warn your customers about. I haven't tried to reproduce the problem, but I believe the issue with my eyes is related to my use of prescription progressive lenses which may have anti-infrared coatings on them. Not sure why the hands on the wheel was a problem. The dealer has assured me the vehicle has the latest software updates, so that's not the issue. You need to look into this more!

One of the best cars that I’ve owned, I would actually buy another one if they fix a couple of issues I actually had.

2026 I5 Review

The one thing I am critical about this car that causes me to rate it average is how the so-called "inattentive driver feature" is designed. The "coffee cup" and associated chiming are extremely annoying. I plan to contact appropriate Hyundai authorities to provide some kind of fix.

Great car with a few issues

Great car with a few issues. It has a hesitation while coming out of a turn. It doesn't have a remote start in the app. The remaining miles charge isn't steady.

2026 Ionic 5

There are only 3 changes I would make to this year's car. 1. The key fob is too big and bulky. Is there any reason why it can't be smaller? 2. The temperature control panel cannot be read with polarized glasses. Polarized glasses filter the light, making the panel impossible to see. 3. There are a lot of bells and whistles built into the car. Other than that, I'm really enjoying the car and I'm glad I bought it.

Great car that could benefit from some usability improvements

Overall, we are very happy with our new Ioniq 5 There are some quirky user experience options that could make it great if updated: - User selection on the display at start up is clunky - takes several button presses just to log in and takes up time when you just want to connect your already registered phone and hit the road - You can't click the door lock button once the car is off and the door is open as you're getting out - The door handles not automatically locking / concealing back into the door as you walk away is not ideal - Having 3 options for "Auto" on the HVAC defeats the purpose of auto... - The app is slow and clunky Other things that could be improved, probably more hardware: - Seats seem too short, could offer more upper back/shoulder support (I'm 6'1" for reference, which isn't that tall...) - The car could use a charging speed (in kw) throttle with settings for more efficient charging rates at home

Great potential, really annoying extras

I chose this car, not because it is perfect, but because it is the best of very limited choices. The car handles well (side-to-side, not front-to-back). The seats are comfortable. There is enough leg room in the back. Optional towing, though there is no Hyundai brand hitch for this year. The miles-per-kilowatt efficiency is surprisingly good. First, the only real mechanical problem: This is the only vehicle I have ever driven where coming to a stop causes the car to bobble front-to-back like a bobblehead doll. This effect also happens while going up hill at a steady speed. Avoid if you are prone to sea-sickness. I wonder about the NACS socket. Any time I leave it to charge in the rain, I find water pooled in the socket. That can't be good. Clearly the non-Musk plug was better. The speedometer is useless. It took me a bit to realize why. There are no tick marks. Every gauge dating back two hundred years includes tick marks so the user knows where they are on the measured range and the rate of change. Hyundai could easily create a modified instrument panel and offer it for download alongside their other options. I would consider this critical. Now, the extras: I spent more than the first month of ownership finding and disabling extras. Lane keeping has tried to kill me too many times to leave it on. There are not one, but two different places in the menu where the car will automatically turn on lane keeping for you. Die. It took a while to find and disable playing media automatically after starting the car. Not immediate, but about when you have half backed out of a parking space. The car would unlock any time I walked past it. Since the door handles stick out when unlocked, the car then loudly announced to the world that it was unlocked. Bad. The trunk would open any time I walked past the back of the car. Bad. Very bad. Managed to disable. *Everything* is motorized. I don't want motorized door handles. I don't want a motorized trunk. I don't want motorized seats. I don't want flaps that open and close several times any time the car is charging. I am seriously concerned that the car will not outlast the batteries. Unsolved: How do I get it to stop interrupting my music to tell me to keep my eyes on the road? My eyes *ARE* on the road. How do I get it to stop interrupting my music to tell me the car in front of me is pulling away? It is edging up at a traffic light. I feel no reason to do the same.
