Good But Needs a Few Changes to be Great

The Ioniq 5 has been an interesting experience these past 20 months. The car is fun to drive and all the latest tech is available and relatively easy to use. The biggest deficiency is a lack of a rear windshield wiper!! The back window can get covered with dust or mud and in hard rain, you cannot see out the back at all.

Love my Ioniq

The only thing this car lacks is a rear window wiper. The back window quickly becomes dirty and the down flow of the air from the diffuser isn't sufficient to keep the window clear.

Electrical architecture letdown

Low ground clearance makes it a challenging vehicle in northeastern United States in the snow. Lack of rear wiper makes rear visibility challenging to non existent and wing mirrors are somewhat too small for good visibility in the absence of a functional rear view mirror. Additionally, snow will pack up into the suspension and forward compartment. Cold weather battery performance is abysmal losing 40% of range at -20deg F. Cold weather fast charging is slow despite preconditioning the battery at roughly 60kw. Requirement to sign up for emails for a NACS to CCS adapter. I can’t request the adapter without email subscriptions. The winter performance of the batteries, combined with slow fast charging, and a paucity of DCFC availability in rural New England/NE USA makes it a difficult vehicle in the winter where day trips are routinely 225 miles without the availability of fast charging. 12v charging algorithms ruined the 12v lead acid battery in 30k miles leaving me repeatedly stranded requiring jump starts and ultimately battery replacement despite statement by dealership that the battery was good. This would have been devastating for someone without an understanding of the low vs high voltage EV architecture, 12v circuit electrical knowledge and the understanding of principles of jumpstarting. low conductivity coolant replacement was unable to be accomplished at dealership due to lack of appropriate part/tools. Suggests inadequate training of tech staff at dealerships for routine maintenance tasks.

First time Hyundai buyer and it won't be our last!

From the time I met Mitch Martin at Balise Hyundai in Fairfield to "explore the possibility" of making the leap to an EV, I was sold. Mitch and the rest of the Balise group were so informative, so non-pressuring and so patient with the thousand questions I had about the car. Buying the Ioniq 5 has proven to be a terrific investment, easy to learn about (and there's a LOT to learn for a brand new EV owner...), and provided a totally fun car to drive.

Fun, zippy car with great sound system and good battery range.

Love it overall, with its zippy performance, good range on battery, great sound system, lots of USB/phone charging ports, and good storage capacity. What we don't like is the lack of a back windshield wiper, the exterior door handles, the climate control on the touch screen.

Good car. A few annoying things: you have to change the driving character to full 1 pedal every time you start the car, and after you go into reverse. The seatbelts don’t retract very well. No rear windshield wiper.

Such a pleasure to drive

I bought my Ioniq 5 after having a Mini Copper for 15 years and loving that car very much. I was interested in an electric car and Mini had one at the time but I decided I needed something larger as so many vehicles in Phoenix, AZ are large trucks and SUVs; I wanted more protection than a small car can give against very larger heavy double cab trucks. I researched several different cars and test drove a few. The Ionic 5 had been out for a year and drivers loved them. The car has a massive interior space for driver and all passengers of all sizes to spread out. I opted for the SEL trim level and I can’t be happier. The best thing about this car was something I didn’t hear from others and did not realize when I purchased it. This car charges much faster than almost all the other electrics on the road. I can pull into a charging station where others have already started, get charged and be gone before most everyone else. I never had to wait like other drivers whose cars charged at much slower speeds.
